February 14, 2026 at 12:18 #1754615Myretown has the potential to rip this field to shreds. Like others have said, comes with risks attached … but I’m taking a chance on him. Moth to a flame I am!
February 14, 2026 at 14:02 #175468812-1 Git Maker for me
February 14, 2026 at 14:05 #1754690Seems like the officials at Haydock have screwed up the going.
It’s now Good to Soft; horses pulled out earlier in other Haydock races because of a likely soft to heavy going.February 14, 2026 at 14:08 #1754693Ground good to soft at Haydock with the covers off. So heavy with covers on a red herring? It’ll make Myretown’s run round potentially a bit easier than it might’ve been.

February 14, 2026 at 15:25 #1754734Well done winners, but how many mistakes is Top Of The Bill going to make and still finish 2nd?
Myretown went out like a light between the last two.February 14, 2026 at 15:31 #1754735There’s def an issue in the Russell yard , either that or he has wind issue

February 14, 2026 at 15:48 #1754742Nice one Viking and Eezer – and Mike too with his call on Myretown – knackered late on by, I’m sure, his jumping technique. Flat-backed jumpers like him need almost Harrier Jump Jet qualities. They cannot flex enough to get the back end up and flow over like natural jumpers. They need to get much higher on takeoff to clear the fence safely, and the effort that takes, literally lifting half a ton (or trying to) maybe a foot higher than the others at every fence, is extreme. If they cannot raise that effort, they often crash through the birch.
Some horses just don’t flex naturally and are better kept to hurdlles. Some do it because of spinal/pelvic issues with joints or muscles and I strongly suspect that is what Myretown is suffering, given his imperious performance in The Ultima. He looks slightly panicky too when racing as though anticipating pain, and he often goes left at his jumps, another sign a horse is trying to favour an ache somewhere. Mike mentions Ahoy Senor, rightly so, another poor soul. I suspect he just got so sick of racing with something wrong with him that he goes through the motions and refuses any serious effort, and rightly so.
Myretown won’t get in the National now, and probably wants the most thorough examination to find out what is wrong.

Ran some race considering.

Their horses were getting the job done yesterday which is the recent form and before that in February none of theirs was the favourite and they had a few 2nds. For all we know this might be a typical month for the team with Cheltenham round the corner. To me its the horse with the problem at the minute.
February 14, 2026 at 16:23 #1754759Thank you and well done too to Viking
