It’s been a week of top quality preformances on flat (Nemarket, Chester, Leopardstown) and over the jumps (Punchestown) and it left me thinking who’s the current best racehorses in Europe (or the World). It wasn’t the fact that Timeform have Frankel clear as the best racehorse in the world that puzzled me but the fact that he’s rated 142 to Goldikova’s 133 when many people (French’ies) would still maintain that she’s the best there is over the mile. And according to many articles, Timeform have it right. But surely Workforce has to still be the best after a season of raking up the fastest ever Derby win and an Arc victory. And what about Canford Cliffs – he’s unbeaten since coming 3rd to Makfi in last years 2000 Guineas and the multi milliond pound, ex-Australian, now Coolmore owned, So You Think has been the most impressive winner further than a mile of the season. Results this week at Punchestown have left no doubt to Long Run being the best 3mile chaser and Hurricane Fly one of the best hurdlers of all time but what about the 2mile chasers? Captain Chris is unbeaten in 3 starts and Big Zeb one well last time out beating Sizing Europe who may have just been a bit off and didn’t have his usual jockey on board. Why is Big Zeb rated 3 less than Sizing Europe but 12 more than Captain Chris? These are questions that aren’t being asked or the answer to the flat one is just Frankel without any debate. Should Timeform have Frankel rated 9 higher than Goldikova and Workforce? And after a pretty average Kentucky Derby winner I don’t think there’s an American horse that can be rated anywhere near 142. But the question is in your who is the best flat racehorse currently in training on the flat (Europe or World) and who’s the best 2mile chaser around?

2m Chaser – Big Zeb
