We know he is missing out on the 2000 Guineas and his trainer has said it is a race against time to get him ready for Epsom. Despite that his odds didn’t drift out much. Looking at Oddschecker tonight though, I noticed that Sporting Bet are offering 14/1 on Kingsbarns for the Derby. That seems an astonishing price with 9/1 the next best and some as low as 6/1.

I wonder if they know something?

Looking at the market in general it seems very hard to find anything that looks like any value. The market is filled with any number of lightly raced O’Brien horses and a good few who look like they would need an LSD tablet to get the trip. 32 Red have Telescope at 4/1 and that has to be the worst value in a long time.

If you had said last year after Kingsbarns won the Racing Post Trophy that he would now be ten points bigger than a four grand maiden winner, without either of them having raced since, I think the men in white coats would have been dragging you away.

    14/1!!

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

14/1 looks a big price on form Steve, but the price on betfair tells us how likely Kingsbarns is of turning up. 18/1 is the price you can back him at right now and 22/1 if wanting to lay it. With many other AOB runners backed for the Derby recently, expect an anouncement soon to say Kingsbarns will miss the race. In the Racing Post Trophy his round action was very evident, such horses are suseptable to injury. Even if getting back to full fitness I would not now expect him to turn up at Epsom unless it’s soft ground.

I have wondered if we will ever see him again, certainly this side of the St Leger but if he’s such a shaky proposition it is a wonder he is as low as 6/1 with so many firms. No doubt there will be little comment about it until he IS declared a non-runner and everyone will be having a moan about their ante-post bets LOL

I haven’t used Sporting Bet for quite a while. From my experience it is a case of beware when they appear to be dangling carrots.

The price shows how much belief they have in the public statements of Aidan O’Brien. It is 14/1 only because they clearly believe the horse isn’t going run. So it appears a bookmaking outlet ‘knows’ the the horse isn’t going to run but as far as the general public is concerned a multiple Classic winning trainer doesn’t.
