I can’t remember where I saw it other than maybe Pacemaker, but I am sure I have seen in print from more than one source that all the current racing stock was also included in the sale.

You would think – I’ve just checked sporting life (Haven’t got RP access at work) and Michita is still showing as owned by stonerside. That may just be because she hasn’t raced since the purchase. They have some really decent animals in training. I always confuse them with Strawbridges colours though so for a while I thought Rainbow View was owned by stonerside!!!

Only the stallions weren’t included in the Stonerside deal ie. Congaree, Too Much Bling etc.

Does Sheikh Mo want another 10f dirt stallion?

He has Street Cry (arguably a top sire of sprinter/milers too), Street Sense, Any Given Saturday etc.

If there’s one thing tha Darley don’t need it’s more classic dirt sires.

I reckon he would. He is craving for a Kentucky Derby ever since he declared the time would come by 2002, and Worldly Manner flopped on the way there.

He claimed a particularly promising colt in the Derby prep period but I think it was injured. This is the 2007 Derby I’m talking about.

He had Express Tour a few years back and the late Blues And Royals who didn’t make it due to injury.

He’s had a few on the trail this year – crazy Numaany amongst others.

He’ll likely put his hand in his pocket again – he has a few crackign trainers out in the US – McLaughlin and Harty to name two yet persists in sending the 3yos back to Dubai.

Is it any coincidence that Godolphin’s two best performers of this year are both US based and haven’t been to Newmarket – Music Note and Cocoa Beach?

Some excellent observations re Gosden as a trainer on this thread, good to read people are not getting carried away with the hype. True he’s a very good communicator and one of the few who puts across ¨the story¨ of racing very well but he’s well overrated when it comes to the training game imo.

Sir Michael Stoute – The last GREAT trainer left in Newmarket.

    Essence Of Dubai?

Express Tour ran seventh, Godolphin’s best performance in the Derby, which is downright awful.

Any Given Saturday’s owners were given a blank cheque, well, almost, to hand the horse over to Godolphin. They refused.

I think the biggest criticism (and I’ll be short, so as not to hijack) about Godolphin and the Kentucky Derby is their ignorance of prep racing. It’s either seasonal debut in the Derby or second-up following the UAE Derby. I think Sheikh Mo is extremely stubborn.

He is DESPERATE to win the Kentucky Derby, even more so I think than the English one.

    1) Disagree vehemently with the lukewarm notices Johnny G is getting here – and in previous threads on the forum over the years; (David Ashforth has a LOT to answer for).

    2) The Rainbow will win whichever race she goes for in Santa Anita. I consider her the most exciting horse, of any age, of either sex, I’ve seen this season. She gets the blood racing and fires the imagination. And that, ladies and gents, is what horse racing is all about.

    3) Sheikh Mo’s novel and audacious attempts to win the Run for the Roses from Dubai was entirely the plan, Mr Deering. Up till that point, most US horsemen paid scant attention to Dubai. Now they do (look at Curlin), which is the reason the Maktoum brothers have raced in the last fifteen years. Sheikh Mohammed is currently travelling a more traditional path in order to win the race.

    2p worth. Good thread.

Have to agree that Gosden quite often appears to be smarter than he actually is.

Incidentally, Sheikhy Mo has had a share in Raven’s Pass for long before the Stonerside deal – they got involved with him shortly after the Dewhurst. The switch to Princess Haya’s colours was just a formality which has happened after the bulk Stonerside sale.

I’m fairly sure that ‘Stonerside’ still have legs of various horses in training from the deal, but I don’t think the McNairs will actually be involved any more.

Incidentally, after some downtime, the Stonerside website seems to be functioning again, so you can check out the stock details on http://www.stonerside.com

I think Rainbow view is so far forward as a 2yo and gets the juvenile mile trip so well that shes got to have a leading chance.

Ravens Pass would have a very good chance in either the mile or the BCC, but I would just like to see him run the latter, because if he gets the trip the he could be a good benhcmark for how good curlin is.

IMO Rainbow View is quite compact and built for a 2yo and so its not so much that I dont think she’ll train on but I think others will progress past her next year. The second and third in the fillies mile both looked like they would fill out over the winter, and I can remember AOB and Bolger saying that you would far rather a horse fills out from 2 to 3 than grows.

Bully, I think you’ll do your brains looking for that elusive performer.

This years 2000 guineas won by one of the most forward 2yo’s of the previous year. Same in the derby.

The 1000 guineas, same thing applies, Natagora is hardly a big filly.

George Washington, The Rock, Attraction, Rusian Rhythm..

The last horse I can think of who was a 2yo who was always going to grow into his frame was Footstepsinthesand.

Even Look Here this year, who didn’t have the form in the book, is a pretty small filly. From what i’ve seen Rainbow View is by far the most likely winner of the 1000 guineas at the moment. I’m also still keen on Shimah given quick ground.

There is a american filly, who’s name escapes and Irish is referring to, who has been winning G1’s by 8 lengths out in the states though so I would not want to back her for the BC.

Not exactly 8 lengths but you can only be talking about Stardom Bound. Rarely has a horse’s name been more prescient. Massively impressive in two grp 1’s and has the advantage of track experience. She’ll be a real handful if she shows up fit. On a sidenote if you have the right amount of pocket change she’s up for sale after the Juvenile; http://www.drf.com/news/article/98644.html.

I remember when Johannesburg won the juvenile colts, he went off as one of the bigger overlays I’ve encountered, there was a certain Officer running at prohibitive odds. Couple of friends and myself put a real hurt to a few bookies in Germany that night. If she runs in the juvenile fillies Rainbow View could go off at a price where betting her becomes a foregone conclusion.
