John Oxx has been infamous in producing these high class stayers for The Aga Khan and he may have unearthed another in the making.
Hartani very much weakest of all in the market out of five Oxx stablemates on his debut in April at The Curragh this year although he has managed to make light work from the front in back to back races over 13f at Tipperary before embarking his name on many Irish & European racegoers lips Sunday.
The Curragh Cup looked a strong enough contest despite the small field although there was a very decent pace set by Sense of Purpose with no excuses to be had Johnny Murtagh raced just of the leader for much of the race before leading powerfully approaching the final furlong running strongly towards the finishing post.
There’s no doubt he’s relished the testing conditions but he has put up quite a remarkable performance both on the clock and visually impressive by exhibiting all the attributes of a quality stayer in the making.
The Irish St Leger is the obvious target although John Oxx would have to take some serious thinking between now and the Leger to ignore a possible contest with Camelot at Doncaster.
John Oxx had everything Ballydoyle could throw at Sea The Stars all to no avail and how the master of Currabeg could throw a spanner in the works by destroying the triple crown party and halt the designers that may very well be moulding a statute of Camelot already.
The horse could quite easily beat Camelot if the ground was testing and it may very well be the biggest threat to his unflappable record to date if they were to meet but would that be good for Irish Racing? would that be good for Racing in general?
We’ll see.
