Just a generic thread for the moment to flag any plot jobs you’ve spotted. VTC had a few beauties in 2016 thread Iirc.
The organist for the pertemps looks interesting; hunters call for the coral cup – Olly Murphy will definitely have been targeting a festival coup…
Others on my watching list are a couple who hit the bar last year and are being campaigned lightly so far this season e.g. Verni, Gardefort, Ozzie the Oscar
January 16, 2018 at 21:17 #1337706Mall dini, and campeador are two I’ll be interested in if turning up in any handicap
January 16, 2018 at 21:55 #1337710Always like this thread Pointer. Yeah, 2016 was good, as was 2017. Let’s not talk about 2015 though lol. Definitely holding back a little though this year, and trying, daily, to remind myself that a 10-1 winner on the day, is much much better than a 33-1 shot that stays at home.
Only handicap bets so far…..
Squouateur (Kim Muir)
Mall Dini (Kim Muir)
Tigris River (Coral Cup)
Project Bluebook (County Hurdle)Others worth an early shout
Bleu Et Rouge
Tiger Roll (Ultima, but likely Cross Country)
Mixboy (Grand Annual)
Jett
Le Richebourg
Beat That (Pertemps)
Diamond King (Brown Plate)
Ben Dundee (Martin Pipe)
Flaxen FlareAs I said though, very early, and I know I won’t stick to it 100%, but trying my hardest to be strict with myself.
January 16, 2018 at 22:15 #1337714The worst kept secret in racing is that Vaniteux has been plotted for this years festival.
January 17, 2018 at 13:24 #1337765I’ve had a go on two so far, both NRNB.
Tully East – Browns Advisory.
Athenean – Martin PipeMall Dini & Vaniteux as mentioned above are the two on most peoples radars although I don’t particularly like either.
Handicaps are hard to get a shape on I find. Normally wait until the 5 day declarations before getting stuck in.
January 17, 2018 at 23:55 #1337855Hi Pointer
Like to get involved here nearer the week,as Kev says, virtually impossible without 5 day decs, even then plenty will be doubly entered etc.
Be interesting to see how the Irish horses are handicapped,no easy task as results last year suggested.See the novice handicap chase day 1, rating increased to 145,problem being there may only be a few pounds separating the whole field, handicap in name only.
Few on the radar, both sides water, been looking through recent years, there is one race in particular that stands out as my bogey race….Coral Cup…..absolutely love the race,my pocket does not,so there will plenty attention paid to that one.
As for VTC……he still thinks all his geese are swans
Have to admit he has had two great festivals running, both well deserved.
January 17, 2018 at 23:59 #1337856I’m a “dreamer” Flyers, lol
Brown & Merribelle Plate my real bogey race, horrible, nasty record in it. Not this year though, things will be different etc etc etc
January 18, 2018 at 07:30 #1337866The one I’m interested in at the moment is Barters Hill…I’ve already had a speculative go on him for the JLT but think if he runs this Saturday over hurdles I think it’s more likely he’ll be aimed at a hurdle race at the festival…
Ben Pauling needs to get out of the poor run he’s in and he needs to come back from his injury problems but officially rated 142 he must have a major chance if getting to the festival fit and we’ll and lining up in the Coral Cup…currently available at 20’s..
January 18, 2018 at 09:11 #1337870Echo everything that Flyers said above, I am trying my damnedest not to play until Festival week, and also have an awful record in the Coral Cup!
The 4 that I’m interested in at this stage, for what it’s worth:
Ballyalton – Previous festival form, does all his best work at Cheltenham, and I’m not too put off by his shocker over 3m on Saturday, was convinced that neither the trip nor the track would suit. A mark of around 140 would make him very interesting for the Brown Advisory.
Frodon – Massive fan. Probably looking at the Ultima for him. Looks reasonably prominent in the early betting though available at around 20/1.
Ordinary World – In the betting for the Chanpion Chase so chance that he takes his chance their. Surely falls short of the top grade though, and a mark of around 149 would make him an eye-catcher for the Grand Annual, should they choose this route.
Sutton Manor – New recruit to chasing, worth looking at in a handicap but probably needs a decent trip.
January 18, 2018 at 10:37 #1337877Whilst I don’t bet antepost on handicaps (asides from the national and one or two others a season on the jumps), I can see all four of those being decent bets. Frodon at 20s is interesting. Is that NRNB?
January 18, 2018 at 16:28 #1337922Pigs, they’re four very solid picks, every one of them on my radar.
January 19, 2018 at 09:46 #1338004Just had a small bet on Moon Racer @ 33’s in the County Hurdle.
January 19, 2018 at 15:51 #1338037VTC, MOM – Thanks, I haven’t got a bean on any of them and I’m getting twitchy! Promised myself to go very easy on the Antepost betting this year and determined to stick to that, the joy of a big Antepost gamble is proving tempting though!
January 19, 2018 at 15:54 #1338038Is that NRNB?
I think so mate, assuming Bet365 are NRNB for all races now. SkyBet are 16s also.
January 19, 2018 at 22:46 #1338096Yeah Bet365 are NRNB.
20/1 NRNB is definitely tempting.
January 23, 2018 at 20:38 #1338809Glad to hear its not just me with the Coral Cup PIB,several gone really close, but the winner has evaded me going back to 2007…..Burntoakboy……Zabana 2015 the latest one nutted.
Many will know of this site, packed with lots info, using previous runnings to highlight the type of horses that win the handicaps.
Anyone not familiar, the guy puts in a whole heap of work, and asks for a modest donation to charity,a small price to pay for the information within.
Been using this site number of years, most festival handicap fans will have to burn the midnight oil, overnight decs the only time when the field can be truly be assessed.
I have no connection to author/site,well worth a visit for any festival fanatics.
January 24, 2018 at 01:14 #1338838Thanks for that link Flyers.
