How long does he spend in this country, how much tax does he pay?
Going to Windsor to press the flesh with Noddy, hammy will be used to taking the knee.
Will Max be getting Knighted?

Just what is it about Lewis Hamilton that gets certain people’s backs up so much? Few, if any, of the criticisms levelled at him can’t be applied to many other prominent sportspeople. Just what can it be? There must be something.

He must surely be the best F1 driver this country has ever produced so it must be something else but I can’t quite put my finger on it…

He is indeed a very good racer moehat, good to see that somebody appreciates sporting talent when they see it.

If nobody can answer it, I’ll draw my own conclusions. Thought so, doesn’t surprise me.

    “There must be something”.

    I’ll say it.
    Is it because he’s black?

Have many other people living abroad had such animosity?

I’d prefer him to live in this country but that’s not imo enough to stop him from earning this.
Hamilton is a brilliant British sportsman.

What has he actually done to deserve a knighthood?

Or is driving a car around in circles enough?

    Sir Stirling Moss
    John Surtees CBE
    Jim Clark OBE
    Graham Hill OBE
    Sir Jackie Stewart
    John Watson MBE
    Nigel Mansell CBE
    Damon Hill OBE
    Cavid Coulthard MBE
    Jenson Button MBE

    I guess so Gladiateur.

Hamilton was given an MBE in 2009, but he’s won a lot more championships than any of the above.
    So about time imo.

If Anthony McCoy got a Sir for riding around in circles, so surely must Lewis Hamilton deserve his Sir for driving around in circles.

“If Anthony McCoy got a Sir for riding around in circles..”

I didn’t agree with that one, either. No sportsman (or “athlete” as they seem to be called these days) deserves a knighthood for their professional endeavours.

If they perform outstanding community or charity work, that’s a different matter.

Don’t really see why people can not be rewarded for good work in in any sphere myself Gladiateur. Yes, with those performing outstanding community or charity work getting our greatest admiration.
    But fair enough. :good:

Funnily enough I was looking at that list recently Cork. Good on them, I have to agree.

Good luck to people who receive honours and I’m glad they take pleasure in it but I’m not particularly bothered by the whole thing. Same with awards ceremonies, don’t care.

I am not an admirer of Cromwell but he turned down the chance to be a King. That is sticking to your principles, with bells and whistles on.

I have not got the remotest interest in the Honours system.

And tbh I am not interested in F1 either.

So I’m not interested in Lewis Hamilton.

But seeing as my all-time favourite sportsman is Muhammad Ali it is somewhat unlikely to be because of Hamilton’s skin colour.

It’s just that I think he’s a bit, err, boring.
