Anyone going?
Previous experience almost demands any bulletin from that course containing the words “prudent”, “precautionary” and “should have no difficulties” (my italics) needs treating with a pinch or three of Saxa. What chances do any of the TRFfers local to Haddock give it, as things stand?
Any of you likely to be there – Neil? Anthony? Others? Should be easily findable as the grebo paddockside if you fancy saying hello.

And here’s me thinking this thread was a Friday night fish & chip reference. I was all set to proclaim the virtues of Dover Sole.
January 21, 2011 at 11:48 #336991I was having a look at the second favourite in the Champion Hurdle trial this morning. I think I’m going to have a Plaice bet…
…I’ll get my coat.

January 21, 2011 at 12:27 #336997Think I’ll skate over them, myself.

January 21, 2011 at 13:14 #337002Even if all the UK meetings are off tomorrow, there will be some racing that can be shown in the shops.
A local enthusiast has posted this snippet of an interview he recorded from the Tibetan sports and news channel, Radio Zed Dead.
Sherpa Luk Harva is talking to Major Kirkland Tensing, clerk of the course at Katmandu Park.
Good morning Major, what are the prospects for racing tomorrow?
Excellent, it’s four degress above freezing here and we’re confident the meeting will go ahead. In addition to the 47th running of the Dalai Lama Gold Cup, we’ve got some of the best yaks from Nepal coming to compete in a six race card. There’s a bouncy monastery for the kids, man eating tiger face painting, and a prize for the best abominable snowman impersonator. The gates open at 11 a.m. and I would remind racegoers to set off early to allow time for the roadworks at Junction 4 on the Kyber Pass.
Thank you Major, can you tell us what the going will be?
How the hell should I know, there’s three feet of frozen snow out there and my pointed stick is only two feet long.
But I thought you said it was four degrees?
Yes it is here in my office, but you don’t think I’m stupid enough to go outside in this weather. I don’t know, just because a chap’s father once climbed Everest …..
Snippet ends.

That’s probably more accurate than the "Good to soft" he gave out for Betfair Chase day, AP !!
January 21, 2011 at 17:17 #337048I’ll be there assuming it’s on, although Kirkland Tellwright (surely the most inaccurate surname in the history of surnames) says he’s ‘very confident’ so I’m 90% certain it’ll be off.
Been to Wigan today & ground quality is literally 50/50. A golf course on one side of the track (railway track that is) was white over; a rolling hill on the other side, lush greenness.
I haven’t heard anything about frost covers being deployed either. Tellnowt will have questions to answer if it’s off.
I’m going to be trying out an experiment too if it survives. Wait for Peddlers Cross to finish then see if I can eat a whole pie before the rest do.
Place your bets now folks!
(PS What is a Graduation Chase?)
January 21, 2011 at 17:32 #337050I’ve heard a rumour that a number of trainers are sending their hurdlers to Ascot tomorrow because it’s closer to the Haydock paddock than the new Haydock hurdles course is.
If it is on tomorrow by the way & anyone wants to say hello, I’ll be in my Imperial Commander scarf & I normally watch the opener from the benches near the parade ring.
January 21, 2011 at 17:34 #337052For horses who’ve only won one chase I believe Anthony.
Seeing all the Haydock threads is making me miss home now lol – anyone going to be there for the Walrus Hunters Chase/National Trial double-header?
Will be celebrating 13 years since I first attended a race meeting and went through the turnstyles that day I believe
January 21, 2011 at 17:59 #337061I live 10 mins away and can tell you all its colder than elvis, so i guess we will have to wait till the morning.
January 21, 2011 at 19:29 #337075Am going to be at Ascot tomorrow, though the Haydock card excites me more so hope it survives the icy weather.
January 21, 2011 at 19:36 #337078I’ll be at haydock, looking forward to it if it survives
January 21, 2011 at 20:47 #337087I shall be at Haydock as i am an Annual Memeber and very much looking forward to it as i have not been jump racing since Lancashire Chase day although i did go to Wolverhampton over Xmas but its not the same.
Fair card with some good racing on show, Crowd should be busy but comfortable.

hope its on, if it is get your cash on peddlers for the champion hurdle before tomorrows run as he will skate in
January 21, 2011 at 23:56 #337121I’m ten miles-ish from Haydock.
I’ve just been outside. There’s about as much chance of me being run over indoors than Haydock being on tomorrow.
January 22, 2011 at 07:55 #337152Off,nevertellsitright gets it wrong again.
