On a fairly mundane Saturday of racing (expected just before Cheltenham) this race offers some merit. Those at the foot of the weights tend to do well, so I’m looking at entries such as Harry The Viking, Real Milan and Storm Survivor. Of these ill opt for Storm Survivor, who has gone well on a sound surface and has won at the distance. I rate McLernon in the saddle and has dropped a few pounds since last time which may be enough for him to prevail.
Of the rest I’ll be interested to see how Monbeg Dude runs after his terrific win at Cheltenham last time, and is among the favourites for the Grand National. An encouraging effort in this would bolster his chances.

Hope you win mate
February 28, 2014 at 19:50 #46952712s is pretty good, I may wait until the morning to see what I get. Jonjo’s have been hitting the bar of late but think SS can turn it around for him just in time for the festival.
February 28, 2014 at 20:10 #469530I’m prepared to take a chance that the wind operation and the recently fitted headgear will get Harry the Viking back to winning ways. If he is anywhere near back to his best, he must have a cracking chance running off 129, when just over a year ago he was running off 142,
He loves the track, two of his four wins have come here, and Nick Scholfield seemed to get on well with him last time out, running an encouraging race behind Golden Call. He is 8lbs better off with that one for a keeping on 7 lengths defeat.
He should be just about at his best after the two runs following the wind op, and I expect Paul Niccolls to have him spot on for this. 15/2 with Betvictor and Coral looks like a decent bet to me.

along with Monbeg DudeGreat minds think alike!
Big, think HTV has a good chance provided he’s back to his best, undoubtedly well handicapped if he is.
March 1, 2014 at 19:41 #469640I’m surprised to see a few firms push Monbeg Dude out in the National betting after that performance. Carberry never put him in the race – almost impossible to come from that far back on decent ground at Donny, nothing like the Welsh National conditions
Either a bad ride or ridden to instructions as he was a never nearer 5th. I didn’t want him to win, just run well and i thought he did
March 1, 2014 at 21:17 #469648Well, at least he’ll [hopefully] go straight to the National now unlike T43 who sounds as though he’s going to get a strong McCoy ride in the Gold Cup as a prep.
