It’s a case of to his each his own I guess but during July/August one friend of mine who has moved to Normandy went to Deauville/Clairefontaine 26 times and I went to all 37 days at Saratoga.

Whilst they were going on Galway, Glorious Goodwood and York plus the 7 week Del Mar meet were all in action and all 4 will have many supporters for being the greatest meet as well as Ascot, Cheltenham and others but I guess it’s a case of knowing your own comfort zone and being around people who are enjoying what you’re enjoying.

Actually the can I’m opening up is Rest of the World V Britain :)

My friend would go into battle for Deauville as I would for Saratoga. I haven’t been racing here since July Cup day last year and I can’t say that I’ve missed much-apart from the usual fights on Guineas day and trains packed full of drunken bums returning from the races.

I’ll go into battle with you for the Spa.

For anyone who hasn’t been there, it is, imho, the jewel in America’s racing crown.

..then what a shame you missed the Shergar Cup? right up your street I imagine..

Hollywood Park is nice, I’ve been there at least 2 days on the trot and they have some good meetings coming up. Lovely weather, friendly people and half decent nosh..how ’bout that then? 4th place.

I watched Saratoga on the t.v. recently. What were those things they were jumping?
