I don’t think that the dross aw winter racing is responsible for the interest in our sport diminishing. Racing enthusiasts tend to concentrate and enjoy the National Hunt racing more in the autumn and winter anyway.
There are other reasons for horse racing becoming less popular than it was in terms of betting. I will lose interest in horse racing this summer simply because there will be so much of it and I will get bored and I believe other race fans feel the same. Too much racing is tedious and does not leave me hungry for more which other sports such as soccer and golf do because they have an organised break. Punters are turning more to other sports such as soccer and cricket for their enjoyment.
Great Leighs deserves a chance and the card there today looks more interesting than the ones at Folkestone or Redcar in my opinion.

May 1, 2008 at 20:46 #161006Is it peaceful or painful, Drone?
I expect you’ll shake off the condition enough to attend York, whatever.
May 1, 2008 at 21:21 #161009Summers are peaceful Sean, and Flat racing painless now I no longer punt it.
Daresay I’ll turn out for Musidora day; a chance to enjoy the virgin May-green spring-clean as much as the horses. Long a favourite.
Hope your summer treks away from Woover pay dividends
