An interesting race, for all that the quality is below average for a Group 1.
Fascinating to see how Alessandro Volta runs today after his Irish Derby antics. Epsom form is represented by the fourth, Doctor Freemantle and the Aga has a potential star in Montmartre, who redeemed himself after flopping in the French Derby by winning a Group 3 here as a prep for this.
Prospect Wells finished well in the French Derby after a troubled trip and is Fabre’s main chance.
At Hills 6/1 I’m chancing Montmartre to win today and move into the Arc picture. I’ve saved on APs errant beast.July 14, 2008 at 14:44 #173207They said that the quality of the eclipse was below average so perhaps the Group One average is dropping? This race is for 3yo.Right?We are still sorting them out over a mile and a half. Allesandro Volta may yet prove a high class horse. He was set to win the Irish Derby when he bolted across the track. The question is whether Murtagh can win without swerving. I think the horse is still learning and being a Montjue is probably a little quirky. If he comes on the outside and the correct whip is used he will not interfere with the other horses. French stewards are more strict than the Irish so watch out.Given a clean race I believe he will win.
July 14, 2008 at 15:14 #173211The overture is playing – now … draw curtains!
If Curtain Call was featuring in either England or Ireland I would lock him in but who knows at Longchamp.
You really need to know the track back to front.
Bashkirov needs to blaze in front to give some of those staying 1m4f horses a decent crack.
Prospect Wells goes OK but I don’t think good enough for a Group 1.
Montmartre should bolt in. I’m not that concerned about any others in particular. He really should bolt in.
July 14, 2008 at 15:28 #173216I think its a very difficult race to price up due to the 2 unexposed French Horses. Prospect Wells finished very well in the French Derby and looks suited to the 12f, apparently he’s very well regarded and may well become Fabres main Arc horse given Manduro Part II’s latest disapointments. I didnt see Montmartre’s last race, (what a shame about Youtube
) but apparently very impressive, could be anything. Doctor Fremantle looks a stamina horse, he dosent look to have any turn of foot and that may be needed if its a typical French Group 1 race. Allesandro Volta ran a great race in the Irish Derby, his greeneess probably cost him the race, have they sorted that out in 2 weeks? My bet will be a small lay of Curtain Call. He had the run of the race in the Irish Derby until the interference which didnt cost him the race imo, he was the only holdup horse that really looked to tire badly in the last 2 furlongs and I’d be confident there will be a few too good for him today.

I think Doctor Fremantle is going to take some beating today. I’ve heard good things about Fremantle from the yard and he is a really tough colt who should take this race as a stepping stone towards the Arc so a win at 5.0. [/color:1ztrvi6t]When it comes to looking for an outsider Cima De Triomphe springs to mind, the Colt by Galileo won a suspect Group 1 at Capannelle but although nothing has franked the form im still having it down as a good run so a place @ 5.0[/color:1ztrvi6t]. My final bet in this race would be the Dupre runner Montmartre who is the one horse in this race I have down as challenging Doctor Fremante after its cosey success at Longchamp recording a staggering time compared to the other runners on the day, A win @ 7.2 and a place @ 2.24[/color:1ztrvi6t].
Good luck guys
July 14, 2008 at 17:00 #173224Looks very trappy. I though Speed Gifted was by far the best bet to be had on the card. Found things happening a bit too quick for him at Ascot so a return to this trip will suit and his form looks at least on a par with any of his rivals.
July 14, 2008 at 18:00 #173230Speed gifted looks like the best horse in the race but i’m not convinced he’ll go through with his effort. Looks a bit of a thinker to me judging by his last run.
I fancy Noble Prince in what is an average Group 2.
July 14, 2008 at 19:36 #173232Montmartre very impressive, not the best of rides from Ryan Moore but he wouldn’t have won it anyway.

July 14, 2008 at 19:47 #173236Cheers Cav- best Arc trial so far, though quotes of 5/1 don’t set the pulse racing given the possibility that good ground suits him best. A possible superstar though…
July 14, 2008 at 23:24 #173253Ahh marvellous! Had no fears about the rest of the field and Montmartre surely bolted in.
July 15, 2008 at 03:01 #173262Congrats M.Time for a bow.
July 15, 2008 at 09:12 #173276Yes well done Mr Deering. Do you know if his run in the Prix Du Lys is available somewhere on the ‘net?
July 15, 2008 at 10:08 #173288July 15, 2008 at 10:09 #173289Thanks Salselon. Much appreciated!
July 15, 2008 at 10:42 #173296kingpresa to the rescue.
July 15, 2008 at 11:38 #173304What I’d like to know is whether du royer dupre and the Aga Khan agree with the bookies assessment or whether they prefer Zarkava. I also wonder whether she’ll now run in the Arc… I hope so, but if they think she has the beating of Montmartre and with him having a live chance I think it is less likely….
Personally I think New Approach will beat him.
