Decent race tonight over 12 furlongs, only six runners though, this is the one Hurricane Lane demolished the opposition in last year.
3 horses are currently vying for favoritism. Eldar Eldarov just got up over 14f at Ascot, he needed every yard to do that and won on the nod against Zechariah who didn’t exactly do much for the form when seen last week in the Bahrain Trophy Stakes, he’s an easy pass.
Onesto had a tough draw to contend with in the French Derby (1m2f110y) and was staying on, he’s one I can’t pass on easily but I would have liked to see him a bit stronger in the finish. El Bodegon was in front of him that day from a much better draw, he should like the step up in trip but he won’t want this ground, he may even be a doubt to run.
Piz Badile finishing 7 lengths behind Westover might be good enough form for a race like this, the Derby and Irish Derby winners could prove to be exceptional animals. A win here would certainly boost their credentials even more. A good run is on the cards.
L’astronome held on gamely in an 11f group 2 last time and should appreciate the step up in trip, he is plenty short enough though.
I’m going to plump for Simca Mille, one who has steadily progressed to win a group 3 over this distance last time. I like the way he traveled and put the race to bed, he will relish ground conditions and I like the noises coming out of the camp. He has some tied in form with the previous mentioned L’astronome (Garachico was a few lengths behind him, Simca Mille beat him further next time) so I’m happy to take the others on with the perceived ‘outsider’ even though he’s best priced 13/2.Simca Mille 13/2
Anyone having a go on this race?
July 14, 2022 at 08:13 #1606848Paddy Power are 17/2 about your selection Chivers.. That is big enough for me to lump a fiver on the nose
The horse has improved from 2 to 3 and for the step up in distance and I think the price is very, very fair
Eldar Eldarov is one I like as a horse but conclude the distance is too short here coupled with the likely French pace which will be to no advantage.
I’ve also stuck a couple of quid double with Quickthorn in the race afterwardsGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
July 14, 2022 at 10:56 #1606880Yea really wasn’t sure which way the price would go, some firms were 5/1 at the time.
The prix du mallaret at 633 looks really interesting. No surprise if there were future group 1 winners coming out of that one. Quickthorn later on looks a good chance for him to grab a group 2, I just thought he was plenty short enough on ground that is quickening all the time.
July 14, 2022 at 15:36 #1606909Racing post have the going as soft
That has to be wrong surely
July 14, 2022 at 15:43 #1606911Must be due to their new COTC, André Tonnelier. 😉
July 14, 2022 at 16:06 #1606916Piz badile 11/2
El bodegon 10/1My two against the field
Can’t really see why el bodegon is double figures
I’m hoping he’s going to make the running

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"July 14, 2022 at 17:15 #1606930The de facto French Derby, since the Prix Du Jockey Club was reduced in distance to ten furlongs.
July 14, 2022 at 20:23 #1606968Good effort from Simca Mille, no complaints here. Onesto wasn’t easily passed on but I don’t regret that. Vadeni takes another boost from that. The French Derby form could be a really interesting angle for future reference from those drawn wide (minus Modern Games who went to the front from stall 13).
Jean-Claude Van Damme Rouget had Al Hakeem staying on from stall 11 in front of Onesto (stall 14) and he is 33/1 for the Irish Champion stakes, I’d prefer to back him stepped up in trip.
In stall 15 was Vagalame, trained by Carlos Laffon-Parias and he was staying on sweetly to dead heat with today’s victor, Onesto.
Only entry I can see is for the Arc at 28/1. Tempted to nibble at that.July 14, 2022 at 21:50 #1606982I think RP going forecast for French racing is set on default
The winner today was impressive I thought. He pulled his way to post and was dropped out the back in a race which possibly favoured the front runner as it turned into a bit of a sprint turning for home.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
July 14, 2022 at 22:10 #1606984Racing Post have the 633 Prix De Malleret run at 2m 10.32s (fast by 19.28s). Surely someone has stopped the watch too early there.
The Grand Prix de Paris, same distance of 12f 2m 27.76s (fast by 1.84s).
I have checked France-Galop and that is the times they have. I-n-t-e-r-e-s-t-i-n-g.July 14, 2022 at 22:21 #1606987You cannot believe anything you read about French racing – the race distances, the going, the time, the standard time….none of it.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"July 15, 2022 at 12:12 #1607032According to the 9 am going report by Turftrax the going was nowhere near soft and given the weather conditions yesterday you would imagine it would of been faster by the evening.
They have a twitter page but the website is not in operation anymore. You would of thought the trade papers would take a peak on the morning.
