Disappointed about but not surprised with Galvin.
This looks like it’s going to be run like the nationals of yesteryear. Hack round first circuit, very few finishers.
The more I look at it the more I fancy the proper, copper bottomed stamina types. Kitty, Galia Des Liteuax, and I think Minella indo might run well. And I’d even give chambard a squeak of top 7!
April 7, 2024 at 22:03 #1689322After first backing both Kittys and Indo and then laying them back at shorter, my pocket won’t want either, Tizz’… But I’d still love to see Christian Williams in the winners enclosure. Both are thought to want better ground.
Am on Galia at a massive price wouldn’t put you off her. But don’t forget Chambard’s mark has officially gone up 7 lbs from 140 in the Becher to 147 here. He also had Miss Lucy Turner on board claiming 5 lbs for that victory. She’ll presumably be riding this time too, but riders are not allowed to claim in the Grand National. So the 12 year old Chambard is effectively on a 12 lbs higher mark.
If you want a horse sure to jump around then another 12 year old Roi Mage might be the one. Seldom seen a better round of jumping than he produced last year.
Value Is EverythingApril 7, 2024 at 22:14 #1689324Just looking at the exchanges for any clues for tomorrow’s decs. Obviously reading into it too much, but there are 8 who look like potential defectors if not tomorrow, then possibly Thursday if the rain carries on.
That would see Shakem Up’Arry squeeze in.
I can’t see it being as much of a slog as others if the met office is anything to go by. It’ll be soft, no doubt, but I’m not anticipating 2001 vol 2. Closer to 2018 perhaps with the latter part of the week looking drier.
Not optimal conditions for Kitty’s Light, but so long as the name of the game is stamina, I still think he’s a threat. I do think they’ll roll the dice no matter the going.
Of my four; Chemical Energy is the one I’m cooling on most, but I’ll stick with him… if only because cash out isn’t available and I’m not a layer, so…

April 8, 2024 at 12:10 #1689344The top 34 have all been left in at today’s decs.
April 8, 2024 at 12:19 #1689346That had escaped my attention about Lucy turner Ginger so thanks for that.
And yes Roi Mage is another you have to consider. I do always have a couple in it I don’t think have a hope in hell of winning but you’re at least getting one over the line.
I’ve got Galia, Meeting of the waters (main fancy) & Vanillier now that Galvin misses out. All to win.
Will be adding 2 or 3 others to win and 2 or 3 each way after decs.
April 8, 2024 at 13:44 #1689349Fury Road out. Others may follow.

April 8, 2024 at 19:36 #1689360They have said there won’t be reserves. The reason for this is beyond me. There is every possibility that there could be fewer than 30 runners for a Grand National…

April 8, 2024 at 19:57 #1689364Tongue totally agree why they did away with the reserves system last year, when now they reduced field allowed that reserved system, is needed more

April 8, 2024 at 20:13 #1689366“The reserve system for the Randox Grand National was scrapped after the 2022 race due to feedback indicating it was confusing for racing fans and bettors, and it was complicating the production of raceday data. The system, which had been in place since 2000, allowed for up to four reserves to replace non-runners by 1pm the day before the race. However, this led to the lowest-rated horses, which were the reserves, appearing higher up in the racecard even though they were carrying the least weight. This discrepancy made it difficult for the production of racecards and the return of results for various outlets12.”
I doubt the honesty of anything they do in horse racing these days. Would have thought having the reserves numbered 35 to 38 was fairly simple and very few punters in Britain confused.
April 8, 2024 at 20:28 #1689367Bet365 have a market up for number of finishers – they currently go 6/4 about there being under 10 finishers. Personally I think that is the bet of the meeting given the likely going. Lots of golf courses here are closed due to waterlogging and the local club cricket season has been postponed till the start of May. Can’t see it drying out at all before Saturday.
April 8, 2024 at 20:33 #1689368365 gone 6 places this afters
April 9, 2024 at 00:12 #1689381I have done a Grand National Preview exclusively for TRFers…
