Gary Moore won the race anyway !!!!
Time for coupling of horses (as discussed a million times before no doubt…..)?
May 21, 2022 at 15:21 #1598724No to coupling!
Don’t force a punter to back something he /she does not want to back.
If a punter wants to back one horse he / she can.
If a punter wants to back both horses he / she can back them both individually.
If the trainer or owner has three, four or eight horses in a race the punter can currently – if wanting – back however many he /she chooses.Value Is EverythingMay 21, 2022 at 17:33 #1598763Definitely well said but the other side of the coin is someone in the stable could always know something and there’s way more money to be won on a 6/1 than to be lost on an 11/10 !!!
May 21, 2022 at 17:55 #1598765Coupling forces punters into backing every horse from a yard in the race.
The existing system gives punters the option of backing individual horses – or all horses from a yard if they wish to.
I like to be able to choose.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"May 21, 2022 at 18:22 #1598767Father Jack, you can do your own coupling if you want to.
As you have mentioned, if one of the horses is 11/10 and the other one 6/1, you can have 21 quid on the 6/1 shot and £ 70 on the 11/10 shot. No matter which one of the two wins, your payout ist 147 quid for a total stake of £ 91. This is basically backing a 8/13 shot…..
May 21, 2022 at 22:51 #1598784Personally I tend to avoid any race where a trainer has more than one runner, lost count how many times Dane O’Neil on Hannon’s 2nd string beat Eddery on the favourite!

Ian, coupling can mean anything you want it to if you’re the authority doing the coupling.
Last year two jockeys got married only to learn from the New York State Gaming Commission that whenever they rode in the same race their mounts would be coupled for betting purposes. That rule was naturally challenged by the newlyweds. I don’t know the outcome.
I’m wondering if the PMU still operates coupling. It used to combine horses not only from the same yard, as you say, but those in the same ownership. I can’t find a recent confirmation one way or the other.
June 8, 2022 at 17:47 #1601277I simply agree with GT on this one.
Whatever the reason for coupling, I’m opposed to it.
Anyone with integrity concerns can manually couple their bets and those with no concerns shouldn’t have outcomes imposed upon them that they don’t wish to bet on – it simply shortens the odds on the outcome they DO want to bet on.
