    [King George anyone?

Does AOB enter many 3yos in the KG? Fame And Glory, after Derby success?

It will be fun having the grudge match Frozen Fire versus Tartan Bearer. The Irish Derby last year was one of the funniest things I’ve seen.

Anyone who rates TB’s performance today as anything other than very impressive has to be very hard to please.

Over a trip far from ideal, he gave the speedier PD almost five lengths start and reeled him in superbly. He also had to come through a couple of tight gaps on the way to the line too. As willing as you like and mightily impressive with it IMO.

All I can say is some of you sure got a funny old way of looking at things.

We have Gord telling us he’s going to win the King George and OTS telling us that was impressive.

The way I saw this race was Pipedreamer left Tartan Bearer for dead. If had he not blown up would have beaten him approx 3-4 lengths and that was before I read John Gosden’s comments about Pipedreamer not being fit.

You can clearly see him stopping and the whole field closing on him not just Tartan Bearer.

So Tartan Bearer beat an unfit horse a sh and a Group 3 winner by a couple of lengths.

While it’s not the worst form in the world it’s far from the best, something you can expect to continue from Tartan Bearer.

He certainly won’t be winning the King George and unless SMS can find him a Group1 race very very quickly with unfit horses in it he won’t be winning one of them either.

His second in the Derby is decent form but don’t forget New Approach got into all sort of trouble that day. He pulled too hard came round Tattenham Corner like he was running on bananas and still won easily.

I would suggest Tartan Bearer has limitations and is a horse who will run well but will always find one or two too good for him. Irresepective of what SMS saying he felt he wasn’t right (AFTER) the Curragh I think that’s just about him. A good horse without that little bit extra acceleration it takes to win Group 1’s.

I certainly don’t have the foresight of the would be ante post king who says he will win the King George and he hasn’t a clue what else will be running it. Plus the fact SMS has indicated while entered in 12f races the horse might be kept at 1 1/4 miles and go for the Eclipse.

I do have the foresight to realise there a lot better than this fellow to come out this season.

I would agree Fist that Tartan Bearer winning the King George is a premature statement to make. I wasn’t aware of nor am I convinced by Pipedreamers lack of fitness as he’s a horse that barely gets ten furlongs and often paddles the last half a furlong I just thought Sandown’s hill was a bit much for him.

Tartan Bearer can be expected to improve with a stiffer stamina test and lets not forget he hasn’t run for about 10 months. Whether or not he’ll be good enough to win a King george we shall have to wait and see not on yesterdays performance.

It depends as well on this years three year olds. Ratings experts will tell you that thus far the three year olds are a pretty poor bunch but we haven’t seen the best of them yet for such a statement to be confirmed.

Very impressed with Tartan Bearer from a cracking ride from Ryan Moore which shows why he is champion.

Without doubt he will be suited by going back up to 1m4f and Pipedreamer will be left in the 1m2f races.

Love to see TB run in the Coronation Cup as that will be ideal and he could even be good to run over 2m in time.

And there lies the difference between you and me! It was a year ago today
i backed the Duke of marmalade to win the POW at Royal Ascot at 14/1
and topped up on the Duke staying 11/2m in the King George at 16/1!

Havent gone through the whole thread yet but has anyone actually comented on the fact all and sundry knew that Tartan Bearer badly needed the run yesterday?

SMS said it before the race, everyone knew this so for him to beat Pipdreamer (a horse from a yard that ALWAYS perform exceptionally this time of year) albeit by a small distance is decent form for now.

Granted, he needs to improve for the run like most expect him to but I still have him down as a decent horse to follow this season.

Pipedreamer looked like he was going to come with a surging run to win the Juddamonte last year and I’m still strongly of the opinion that JG should drop him down to a mile. I think thats where he’ll win his group 1.

As I say, apologies if these points have already been covered

Will Conduit be the main Ballymacoll/Stoute horse for the King George?

By the way, Tartan Bearer doesn’t have an entry in the Coronation Cup, and will be running in the Tattersalls Gold Cup at The Curragh instead.

Because Sir Michael is always wholly forthcoming, isn’t he? I can remember how poorly Russian Rhythm ran in the 1000 Guineas when seemingly given no chance by her trainer.

And nice to see that you’ve stopped living on past glories, TAPK. Oh no, wait…
