The image is on the Daily Mail’s site. Which I would not usually visit. Highly irresponsible to publish a disputed image that is under investigation, in my view.
Only one comment below the line, inevitably calling for racing to be banned.
This needs to be dealt with swiftly. It could cause terrible publicity for racing.
February 28, 2021 at 09:04 #1525774I’m the least tech savvy person I know so I’m the wrong person to ask if it’s fake! I remember reading an article in one of those Cosmo-type magazines about a photoshopper explaining their job- years and years ago, probably not long after the switch from airbrushing. On the first page was the finished image- I saw about a dozen changes that I thought were likely to have been made. On the second page the original image was shown with little red arrows pointing to the changes. There were over 200 of them.
February 28, 2021 at 09:08 #1525776You’d think since Piers Morgan got the heave ho from the Mirror over the head of the “abused prisoner” hoax photos the rags would be a bit more careful about the provenance of things.
February 28, 2021 at 09:22 #1525780Strange
On the other hand, whats the fine going to be for exactly? its just a tarnished image for GE, cant see what category that fine would fall under…
Its fake anyway. So need not worry.
February 28, 2021 at 09:23 #1525781Agreed, it is not as if he went for a bacon sandwich with his son or anything… i’ll get my coat.
February 28, 2021 at 11:19 #1525800If it is fake, why hasn’t Elliott actually said so?
Sean Boyce on SSR has just said he texted the trainer this morning and has yet to receive a response. Surely he could have come on live TV and stated categorically that the photo is a fake?
February 28, 2021 at 11:20 #1525801He’s even made it to the front page of the german Sun, the BILD-Zeitung.
If the Germans tell you it’s not a fake, then, you should believe them.
Might be an international campaign against jumps Racing in general….
If it is fake, why hasn’t Elliott actually said so?
It is like a Stewards Enquiry, the longer it takes the closer you get to an Amended Result
February 28, 2021 at 11:31 #1525803If the german Sun is the same as the English one it wouldn’t even be fit to wipe your ar$e with
Blackbeard to conquer the World
February 28, 2021 at 11:32 #1525804Sounds like it is real – the date and name of the horse have been identified.
I don’t think anything is really likely to come from it. It’s unsavoury, inappropriate and disrespectful to the horse but there’s nothing to suggest any direct welfare concern. Probably worse consequences to come for the member of yard staff who leaked it from an embarrassed trainer.
One of my horses dropped dead on the gallops in France and a picture was taken where it fell for insurance purposes. Although there was no trainer straddling it grinning and doing a peace sign!
February 28, 2021 at 11:34 #1525806I am still not convinced the picture is genuine. I cannot believe Elliot would behave in that manner.
If it is genuine, the fine suggested earlier in the thread would not be sufficient. If Charles Byrnes got 6 months, what would Elliot have to get?
I really hope it is a fake because the damage it could do is immense.
February 28, 2021 at 11:38 #1525809Probably worse consequences to come for the member of yard staff who leaked it from an embarrassed trainer.
Maybe the photograph was leaked after he experienced some consequences for other reasons.
What is the horse involved in your opinion?
February 28, 2021 at 11:38 #1525810“I don’t think anything is really likely to come from it.”
Sorry Ship but is that for real? I accept the point about welfare but that will be completely lost in the media frenzy if it is a genuine picture. I cannot think of any more catastrophically bad publicity for racing. Its enemies will use it constantly.
I am still inclined to think it is fake until proven otherwise. But if it is real, Elliot will have to have a seriously good explanation about what he was doing.
February 28, 2021 at 11:52 #1525814It’s a horrible image and reflects badly on the man but which specific rule does it prove has been broken?
I understand the horse in the image is Morgan (owned by Gigginstown, died 2019).
February 28, 2021 at 11:54 #1525816It can’t be 2019, if it was taken last June.
February 28, 2021 at 12:05 #1525818Come on now Ship – we all know how the media works. If it is a genuine picture, all the papers will publish the image with headlines like “Tiger Roll’s Trainer Laughs Over Body Of Dead Horse”.
If it is genuine, I agree it does not mean Elliot has broken any rules but that is hardly the point. The damage to racing’s reputation would be huge.
Let us just hope it is fake as I still believe it is and the whole thing is quickly forgotten about.
February 28, 2021 at 12:08 #1525819There wont be an international campaign against jumps racing because of the picture ruby, come
On…Did the horse die over a jump?
The only association to horse racing in that picture is the trainer, outwith that its just another farmer in a field, the ramifications will be purely on elliots image, nothing else.February 28, 2021 at 12:13 #1525822And cork the damage to “racings” reputation wouldnt be huge, the damage to elliots would/could be, thats it
This is not going to be the end of horse racing
Calm down
