The BHA confirmed they are “considering” regulatory options but it would obviously be premature to announce anything before the IHRB has concluded its investigations. Got to put more pressure on both the IHRB and owners though, with Cheltenham only a fortnight away.
March 1, 2021 at 13:50 #1526134She’s got expressive eyes, Mike…. Don’t you like that?
March 1, 2021 at 13:50 #1526135Im with Paul here. I wondered if it been overblown as so much is these days but when I saw the pic…..
Bloody hell
I know many in the industry think we all oversentimentalise horses (the Walsh’s been vocal on that) but the pic could not have been worse. Well it could but bestialitynecrophilia is a very limited market
March 1, 2021 at 13:58 #1526138She does absolutely nothing for me Ruby. I don’t like her podcasts either, Bruce Millington is better for my ears.
March 1, 2021 at 14:00 #1526139It’s no longer about what any of us in racing thinks. It’s about persuading the man in the street that racing is still a sport worth supporting. How do you do that and still have Elliott in charge of racehorses?
March 1, 2021 at 14:27 #1526145Lydia and Nick Luck absolutely fuming.
March 1, 2021 at 15:10 #1526153Thanks Botchy..Lydia and Nick pretty much of the opinion of all who have posted here. Nick Luck states there will be no announcement today and that the enquiry could take more than just a few days whilst bearing in mind the closeness of the Cheltenham Festival and Grand National it is almost certain that under BHA rules Elliott will not be attending.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...March 1, 2021 at 15:10 #1526154I love Racing but just listened to his full statement and it’s all lawyer speak. Whatever happened to the days where, when people were found out they turned round and said “i was stupid, i should never have done it, i’m sorry etc” this just shows a lack of contrition but I suppose this is what the lawyers advised him to release. Whatever happens in the future, regardless if this is a total one-off, all i will see of him now is a smiling man astride a dead horse.
March 1, 2021 at 15:20 #1526155Respected in life and death…
perfectly said Lydia, you just have killed him. No regrets, there.
Good to hear some more statements. Of course the Irish don’t have the balls like the French or British, so they will be hesitant before expressing themselves.
How about a Festival without Gordon Elliott and Gigginstown?
March 1, 2021 at 15:20 #1526156It’s just so frustrating when you look at so many social media accounts where you can see how much the horses mean to those who look after them. All that will be completely disregarded by the general public who will only see this picture.
At the same time we have to understand that for some people within racing horses are just a commodity. Not everyone in the sport shares the love for horses that we have.
I’ll never forget an incident at Perth which showed a disgraceful lack of respect for a dead horse and left me with the worst feeling I have ever had on a racecourse.
March 1, 2021 at 15:27 #1526159March 1, 2021 at 15:31 #1526160‘I apologise profoundly for any offence that this photo has caused;’ This a PR-crafted statement, a classic politician’s apology/non-apology.
March 1, 2021 at 16:40 #1526165Thanks for sharing that link Botchy, good points well made by Lydia and Nick.
Just hope the IHRB don’t drag their heels over this.March 1, 2021 at 16:44 #1526166Lydia was very good, as usual.
It will be interesting to see if Road to Cheltenham is broadcast on RTV this week. It could get spicy if Walsh tries to defend Elliott or takes his usual “don’t get sentimental about horses” attitude.
March 1, 2021 at 16:50 #1526168It seems he has now admitted that the hideous photo is genuine. He should now be banned from training horses for the rest of his life.

All comers, all ground, all beaten
March 1, 2021 at 16:52 #1526170No doubt he has been given very expensive lawyer advise and support , alas this inflamed rather than doused the situation , a sincere apology and perhaps an offer of donating any Cheltenham prize money to a relevant horse/racing charity would have gone someway to appeasing some people , the other thing I struggle to understand is why he let anyway take the picture in the first place , while no doubt a talented trainer it seems he doesn’t have the required support and advise required in his personal life
March 1, 2021 at 17:23 #1526174That’s the most disgusting, vile thing iv’e seen in horse racing.
The stable should be shut and a full investigation into the working practices of the yard should be under taken. Elliot should be hounded out of racing. - AuthorPosts
