I don’t think we’re helped much by tales of firm ground and magical turf drying equipment. If it was firm, then why did McCabe say he was scraping the muck off his shoes ?
One of the things that draws me to the Breeders Cup is me being a sucka for the big occasion. However i think at least half of the meetings races would have been better at Kempton or Wolves. Take away the story of Kentucky weather and folklore(the ground wasn’t firm arghhh), the stories about old dying woman rescuing horses from evil serfs and thieving wizards, who have foretold them that if they don’t win a BC race sponsored by some over priced vodka drink or metal watch, then all their family will die on the flight home. We’re then left with a track i’m not a fan of, and too many races with less than exciting finishes, and over priced horses winning so called world championship races. I will always like the Breeders Cup because of the occasion and presentation. I even enjoyed yesterday to an extent considering i won hee haw. I just prefer Santa Anita holding the event, and i hope their dirt races and hosting provide better finishes and less fables.

Guilty as charged Superman,i love the big occassion and fell hook line and sinker for this years event,i went in again on
Sea Moon
after seeing the ground had a good bit of cut in it,only to be caught and passed easily by last years ‘Wonderhorse’!
Roll on the ‘Jumps’!!November 6, 2011 at 20:47 #376501What were your thoughts on the night Gord? Carnage for punters and lots of hard luck stories on a beast of a track.
Joni,i couldn’t agree more, the aerial shot of the course really shows how the turf course closely resembles Chesters ‘dog’ track, the draw did beat many including
Strong Suit
but i kind of expected it,the performance of the night is undoubtedly that of Joseph and
St Nicholas Abbey
,he came from an impossible position and flew home, what P*sses me off more than anything is i have backed the horse for next years Ascot Gold Cup at 25/1 along with
Masked Marvel
,thinking he will emulate that of
Fame and Glory
! He wont after that performance!
November 6, 2011 at 21:12 #376504My last wager on the flat of 2011 has gone on
Camelot
,not to win the Derby because he wont but to win the 2012 2000gns,what has convinced me he will go the Guineas/Derby? route is that the very same connections sent
St Nicholas Abbey
to Newmarket after winning the Racing Post Trophy and i’m convinced this fellow who just floats across the ground will have the speed to win the 2000gns.Ladbrokes gave me 6/1 today,he’s half that price with others and is the same 3/1 for The Derby, way too short for a horse who really isn’t guaranteed to get the trip.I know i couldn’t tip a Wheelbarrow at the moment but come Guineas day we’ll be back in profit after a successful Jumps season starting with
Aiteen Thirtythree
in the Hennessey.Confidence is King and that eh!
Camelot
£500 win 6/1 Ladbrokes 2000gns 2012.
£4500
November 6, 2011 at 21:51 #376512What’s your views on Harbour Watch and Dabrisim, Gord?
Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
November 6, 2011 at 22:10 #376513My worry there Gord is that AOB then blamed himself for ruining SNA’s 3 year old career by running him in the Guineas. I think he will be wary of doing the same with this horse. Have to say thought he was MIGHTY impressive the other day.
"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"
November 6, 2011 at 22:18 #376516I think you’re forgetting that SNA can’t get drugs over here !…infact the fact he was on Lasix takes away from the performance imo. There are plenty of Americans who want that stuff done away with. Infact i wouldn’t be suprised if they retire SNA on the back of a drug enhanced performance. For me the best performance of the meeting was Calebs posse in the dirt mile.
November 6, 2011 at 22:19 #376517What’s your views on Harbour Watch and Dabrisim, Gord?
Nath,the formbook tells you
Harbour Watch
is the real deal but connections are very pessimistic about his injury,he’ll go to the Greenham if he’s recovered fully in time,he also looks the part too,i like him a lot.
Dabirsim
looks too speedy for my liking Nath,i know there’s stamina in his pedigree so i wouldn’t say he wont get the mile,my concern again regarding an Ante-Post wager would be,if he stays in France i coild see him sticking to the French classics but if he goes to Dubai he could end up doing their circuit so for as much as both colts have posted exceptional pieces of form i still favour the Coolmore colt and the likelyhood of him following a tried and tested formula.

Joni,i know visually both
Camelot
and
St Nicholas abbey
both strolled across the Doncaster mile but on breeding i always felt St Nick would be better suited by a trip,so much so i backed him for the Ascot Gold Cup!

Camelot
defineately looks the sort who will come to hand early,he’s not a big horse and apart from that bloody Montjeu head carriage he is very athletic.I wouldn’t touch him for The Derby in a million years though (Poor Dam),thats why i’m convinced he’s a Guineas horse,Ladbrokes obviously disagree mind!
November 8, 2011 at 09:08 #376672KIng: I saw you went in on Group Therapy and i too thought that was race his for tha taking! Cannot fathom the horse out but very glad he was too short for me mate

I’ve had a quiet time of it as i am trying a different theory for my gambling, tried it before and was successful but then fell back into bad habits. Currently only backing in the major races where i actually fancy something and it is value in my eyes!
Cannot wait for the jumps as the flat really does not do it for me
I am on Aiteen ThirtyThree and Michel Le Bon (EW) for the hennessey, Weird Al for the Betfair Chase and Wishful Thinking (EW) and Mon Perrain for the PPGC.Also spent a few hours re-watching all the Festival races and have some good ones for 2012 i hope
Zarkander could be a suprise horse for the Champion Hurdle!!November 8, 2011 at 11:54 #376696Also spent a few hours re-watching all the Festival races and have some good ones for 2012 i hope
Zarkander could be a suprise horse for the Champion Hurdle!!The best advice for any form student that GDC,nothing beats visual form, some of these so called race-readers who report on the results and comments in running certainly see things differently from me at times.I too think
Wishful Thinking
is a quality animal but Weight is a stopper for most, admittedly he’s built to carry it and his form lines show a rapidly rising curve, both he and
Noble Prince
should be very closely matched,(Loosen my load) gets in well but
Calgary Bay
is thrown in on those form lines. Both he and
Araldur
jump off the page in my little world!
November 8, 2011 at 12:33 #376706Admirable loyalty to Calgary Bay Gord but he’s come up short enough times at this level don’t you think? Araldur is an interesting horse he really is a giant and he was just stepping over them pesky hurdles last season and he should be spot on after his opener.
Been a springboard though for some decent/good horses in more recent times, Celestial Gold, Our Vic, Exotic Dancer, Imperial Commander, Tranquil Sea and there looks a few running below their station this year so think it will produce a good winner who will go on to compete at a higher level, which is why I can’t have Calgary Bay at all!
I know Little Josh won it last year but he got far to easy a lead. Even Long run came out to prove a top classer, can’t see this being falsely run though and those not good enough won’t be there over the last!
November 8, 2011 at 16:23 #376744Calgary Bay
has Grade 1 form tb,I have always maintained that level of form is a must when considering the relative chances of a horse in Handicap company,if as is the case with Calgary Bay that he can carry levels with Imperial Commander and not disgrace himself over what is just testing his stamina,31/4m then sitting on 10 stone over 21/2m around a course that suits suggests to me that at 33/1 he is a serious place horse at least.I still think that
Araldur
is a massive player,i just hope Choc can do 10 stone,i notice he’s been backed steadily too!

Calgary Bay
£150 e/w Ladbrokes 33/1 Paddy Power Gold Cup.
Araldur
£100 e/w Ladbrokes 16/1 Paddy Power Gold Cup.
£5000November 9, 2011 at 11:02 #376879KF: I wish you well with Calgary Bay and as he was one of my favourite horses i hope he places for you
On a plus side Henrietta is having a better start than she had totally last season, there was without doubt something amiss within her yard!A few for you to consider and comment upon for 2012 Festival should you have a quiet moment:
Triumph: Hate the race but i am getting better with the type that you need and yard!
Champion: I loved the way
QMCC: My old favourite
RSA: Again not a race i enjoy but in
Arkle: Peddlers Cross and Al Ferof to dominate IF they both turn up! Obviously Cue Card will make em both go but for me Peddlers Cross is the horse to beat!
Not Cheltenham but Kempton and the King George, all the hype and money is for the superb Long Run but can Mr Henderson have him ready again (probably yes!) but at the prices not for me. 2 i like and have already backed EW are both from Mr Nicholls yard in Master Minded 10s with Laddies and
That’s my lot for now and i look forward to your comments if and when you get time
November 10, 2011 at 21:12 #377179GDC, some interesting selections there,
Hinterland
is a horse i know very little about, other than he’s a son of Poliglote,a sire i have never been a fan of,he ran a place behind
Celtic Swing
in the French Derby mind. The ill-fated
Lingo
was a good one of his though.
Zarkander
,the jurys out for me still on that one though like you say that was an excellent time figure in The Triumph hurdle!
Sizing Europe
,Rolls Royce of a Champion Chaser,i hope he stays at 2 miles now and turns up at Cheltenham in top form,i cant oppose him for the Queen Mother,5/1’s about right!
Silviano Conti
,i said last year if he was a 2 miler i was his brother Tom,the further he goes the better so yes an RSA sort defineately!
Al Ferof
,i backed him to beat
Cue Card
at Cheltenham over hurdles, not so sure over fences though, early days! He’s tempting at 12/1 because he’s a free mover like
One Man
and he eventually found his niche in the Champion Chase, fond memories there!
November 11, 2011 at 08:36 #377240Yer very good memories, i too am a fan of One Man, John Hales deserves a bit of luck as he is one of racings good men!
Superb season and festival to look forward to and starts today with a nice 3 day meeting

Bet of the week-end for me is
November 12, 2011 at 11:43 #377491Call me a Sucker for punishment but i feel this extended 3m3f at Cheltenham will suit my poor jumping pal
Reve de Sivola
,he looks at times destined to fall but somehow he blunders his way round and ultimately these costly mistakes ensure he loses ground, this trip today will enable him to jump at a slower pace and if he can stay in contention will certainly beat this lot up the hill.
Reve de Sivola
£150 e/w 9/1 Ladbrokes 1,55 Cheltenham.
