Tax Free both catch my eye particularly the latter at 75’s on the machine.
Tax Free
£50 e/w
40/1
Corals.
Almost three in a row Kingy.
Still, a nice place price. Well done
Value Is EverythingJuly 31, 2011 at 20:15 #366709Zarkava,i could put my number 1 selection up now,he’s a horse i have mentioned on this forum before in the past,he is so well handicapped he too may struggle to get in, but at least i know he’s heading there,if he’s balloted out i will get my money back,i took 33/1 and surprise surprise he’s 25’s now.Its a race i love and since 1999 i have had the winner 7 times,

,there’s a pattern in there!
Yes the pattern lead to
Tax Free
and he never let us down,he had been my number 1 choice for the race right up to last week when a certain piece of work changed my mind on the Tuesday,it just shows that homework isn’t always gospel!
I remember being up at the yard 5yrs ago,the week before the 06 Stewards Cup,Tax Free was all the rage,he was the 5/1 fav,i of course had snaffled the 12/1,he was burdened with top weight of
9-10 and was done by a future Group 1 winner in Borderlescott rec 5lb.I have never lost faith in the horse and knowing thatBahamian Pirate
ran 6th that day as an 11yo beaten barely a length reassured me that Tax Free could still run a big race as a 9yo,particularly as he just scraped in on bottom weight.
Victoire de Lyphar
is certainly not translating his homework to the track but his time will come and his mark will be generous when he does show his true colours, yesterdays result was certainly a sweet and sour one for me as Hoof it is a horse i have always thought was a Golden Jubilee type but you cant back them all, unless you’re Ginger!

Value Is EverythingAugust 1, 2011 at 10:38 #366779KF: Been away but also backed Masamah, nice ride BUT how unlucky was I!!
Backed Group Therapy EW at 18s and also did the RFC with Masamah, he was stopped twice in his run! Would have been a lovely FC.
Onwards and upwards
August 1, 2011 at 20:52 #366837Hey GDC,your horse Group Therapy must be the unluckiest horse in training,he is consistent so his time will come i’m sure, keep the faith!
I was at Catterick races the other day,i thought i would time my journey back from Scotland to coincide withFol Hollow
running in the 4,40pm,my brother and i arrived at the course at 4,pm so we parked up at a spot i know next to the 3f pole and entered through the gate buried amongst the bushes running parallel to the course and main road only to find half a dozen lads moving the running rail due to water lying on the course, this effectively put racing back by half an hour, just to speed things up a bit we gave the lads a helping hand by piling the spikes in the ground before the plastic uprights slotted over the top,the 4,10pm got off at 4,40 but whereas all the horses going down to the start for this 6f race went down the back side of the track,i noticed Patrick Mathers taking his mount
Northern Bolt
past us down to the 5f start, which is a totally different part of the course, once he realised he had gone down to the wrong start he had to canter past us to get to the correct starting point so i called him a dozy F*cker, his response was quick and he blamed ‘The F*ckers for blocking the course’ god knows what he meant but he was pretty embarrassed,i told my brother the horse had no chance now he had galloped a mile to actually get to the start,he duly won easily at 16/1!
Anyway we thought we had better crack on and get home so we missed Fol Hollow winning,i got home at 7pm poured a Brandy and Coke and told the missus we had had a nightmare of a journey so she told me to sit down and relax, she brought my dinner in on a
tray and i sat back and watched the re-run on RUK…..’There was a delay to the 4,10pm today’ the presenter announces and the camera zooms in to us lot moving the running rails, of course i recognised us clear as day, thankfully the missus never cottoned on or there would have been no afters for me!
I’m going to have to stop wearing my Crown in public places methinks!August 2, 2011 at 21:42 #366941I see there has been money for
Hoof it
,4/1fav, for the Nunthorpe in a fortnights time, now i’m a fan of the horse and have put him up on here successfully in the past but this fellows a 6f horse, the Sprint Cup at Haydock would suit him much better than Yorks 5f,i have watched the re-run of the Stewards Cup many times over since Saturday and as impressive as Hoof it was,i cant agree with James Willoughbys assessment that he would have won 50% of recent Group 1 races on that run,Tax Free is a horse i know inside out and he was a very well handicapped runner last week but he has never been a Group 1 horse, the ‘eyecatcher’ from the race was
Pastoral Player
,beaten barely 3 lengths coming from virtually last and positively flying at the death he would have finished very close to the winner had Steve Drowne not fell asleep for the first half of the race and in receiving 8lb suggests to me that Hoof it just wont have the pace for a 5f Group 1,horses like Sole Power and my mate Prohibit will have too much speed over the minimum trip, the horse who will lead them all a merry dance though is
Masamah
,i have some reasonable wagers on this fellow at 25/1 and am prepared to go in again at 12/1,such is my confidence in this vastly improved son of Exceed and Excel,Prohibit will win the abbaye mind!

Masamah

was a pretty good judge but he’s a mile out this time, for me to be allowed back on the forum one of the conditions was that i would only contribute to my little ‘Gone fishing’ thread and that i dropped the attitude several notches,i like to think i am abiding by the rules so certainly wouldn’t jeopardise my position by contributing to the above thread! Corm should be able to confirm that i’m sure. This
Lastword
fellow does fancy himself a bit though,TAPK would wipe the floor with both!
August 3, 2011 at 20:22 #367030KF my good man i remember asking you a while back where you think Indian trail would be next likely to win and you mentioned a sprint at goodwood,i kept an eye on his entries and he was entered in a sprint there but was withdrawn a week or so beforehand,do you know if he had any problems in training or was he being kept for the race at haydock on Saturday he is entered in?
Another little question while i’m here,do you think Activate will go for the Ebor and will he be good enough and what about Berling, where do you think he will head next? Has bundles of ability and a big field handicap where he can get plenty of cover and be delivered late could work out lovely for him!
If i sound like an uneducated punter you’re not far wrong,i only punt on the flat for fun really as i can’t read it like i do the National Hunt

Hopefully in time i will learn, particularly through following your wise words!Ok enough arselicking for 1 day
August 4, 2011 at 12:50 #367101KF I never copped that you were formerly the legend known as TAPK. Personally I miss your input into the other threads as I usually tended to agree with you on most arguments, usually
Shame this is mostly a cotton wool forum and you have been restricted to this area!!Anyway this is a great thread and glad your still around to point out the winners.
Is your old pal Fist lurking anywhere under a new identity!!
August 4, 2011 at 20:28 #367172Fran,
Indian Trail
is 11yo now and yet his run in this years Dash at Epsom couldn’t have been bettered by a horse half his age,he’s been a great servant to his connections but looking at whats left in this seasons calendar it will be a lowly grade 5/6 race that he wins if any as he will be retired this year.
Activate
is one of those horses who if you catch him right will land a decent prize as he did for me earlier this year at Haydock, his problems are in his head as he is a bridle horse so a race like the Ebor wont suit him at all, however his stable companion
Tactician
is the opposite,he’s as tough as teak and will love a battle on the Knavesmire,i like
Blissful Moment
myself though.
Berling
……
Keep it to yourself Fran but he has November handicap written all over him! Think about it!

Very kind of you Fitzer,i am still ‘The Ante-Post King’ but without the ‘Mo-Jo’!

Fist
is lurking alright! he was brilliant at pulling the wool over the eyes of those who think they know their stuff.
August 4, 2011 at 20:55 #367176Very much hope he is. Characters are needed and he is very missed.
August 4, 2011 at 21:06 #367177Sacred,you know who
Fist
is on the Betfair Forum!
Have you noticed the constant contraction of price forSeville
in the St Leger,he was cut a point a day last week and now trades at 5/2 in places, fingers crossed he gets there eh?
August 4, 2011 at 21:32 #367181There was a colossal sea of blue early last week on him, Gordon. Clearly Ballydoyle decided that was his target & everyone got on. Memphis Tennessee has been withdrawn from the Voltigeur & Lads no longer quote him for the race. He’s a huge price on Betfair too.
There’s been nothing but blue for Seville since last week & wasn’t displeased at all to see Fiorente beaten by a 2-miler last week. Blue Bunting probably the one I’m afraid of now.
August 4, 2011 at 23:06 #367187Hi K/F / all
Noticed an old fav Deauville Flyer stand out 25/1 with SB for Ebor. However looked at weights and looks unlikely to get in. If he does I think he will run a huge race. What are TRF members thoughts about likelehood of making cut as if he made it could see him being half this price on the day.
yorkiedips
August 5, 2011 at 20:22 #367290Yorkie,
Deauville Flyer
is a horse i have kept my eye on in the past, being rated 94 would suggest he has little chance of making the cut but even if he did The Ebor is not his race,it takes a certain type to win this race one that has a bit of toe and who can go a good clip throughout basically he’s not good enough imo.
