Cheers Eclipse, well spotted the profit should read,
£1175
April 1, 2012 at 21:44 #399094Not sure about Fury, yes he didn’t like the ground but will probably go up a few pounds for that run so is by no means certain to land a handicap in the near future. The Newbury Spring Cup would usually be a target but I doubt his trainer will try him too hard again until the ground comes in his favour.
I was up at Doncaster yesterday Eclipse just to cheer home
Fury
,I waited near on 30mins for him to appear in the pre-parade ring at my fav spot to capture a portrait shot of him.He walked straight past the whole field and into the main parade ring as if he was Royalty,I eventually got my shots from there,he had 2 handlers walking him round and he looked the fine specimen i had expected to see,he was very fit and relaxed so I was pretty confident of a big run! Ok he was beaten a length but at no point did he actually look like winning,he travelled well enough, never got the clearest of passages but when push came to shove he blatantly never let himself down so I actually felt I was lucky to get placed, had the rain came he would have won,no question. However he was well handicapped for the race and was defineately tuned for the moment so I wouldn’t go overboard about him again unless he gets soft ground!
Captain Bertie
has ‘Spring Cup’ written all over him, worst ride Ive seen this year,Robert Winston ‘bottled’ an opportunity to go forward, instead he went backwards big time before flying home in the ‘Spring Mile’. Barry always has one ready for this meeting and this fellow was certainly that,he needs a good break between his races so if the Newbury race comes too soon watch him in the Hunt cup at Royal Ascot!
April 2, 2012 at 15:21 #399132KF: These sprint handicaps are often fraught with hard luck stories but there was one on Sunday where maybe people missed a certain runner!
Global Village from the Brian Ellison yard had no sort of run whatsoever and then when he got out he was badly baulked! Has winner written all over him and is entered up at Musselborough on Saturday, if they turn him out quickly I for one will be on
April 2, 2012 at 17:16 #399139Well done on ew bet on FURY gord and i had a few winners with PRIMEVAL,DADDY LONG LEGS,CIRRUS DES AIGLES and ETERNAL HEART. i mention that horse when doing a write up on Hurricane Higgins.
And also did you see FALKLAND he was 7th at Doncaster i did expect better but i think he come on a bit for run
Any early thoughts on racing this week as well.
April 2, 2012 at 20:24 #399165I thought of you darren when
Cirrus des aigles
won,Well done mate,I’m looking forward to Aintree now and the Irish National and then of course Newmarket, plenty to get excited about!
Here’s a shot I took ofFury
from Saturday, you can see both he and his groom fancy themselves quite a bit!

April 2, 2012 at 21:06 #399176Those watching the markets on a daily basis will have noticed that not only has
Burton Port
drifted like a barge for the past week but so too now has
Sunnyhill Boy
,both horses trade around the 14/1 mark on the High St but on the early warning system also known as ‘The Machine’ the pair have traded at 50’s and bigger,I love a bit of that! Jonjo has reacted to the alarm bells and calmed the situation down by giving an upbeat bulletin about his charge.Nicky ‘i wouldn’t tell my own mother’ Henderson still has said nothing about ‘Burton Port’s participation, where’s the now famous quote ‘Well someone must have sneaked in with a Hammer during the night’!
April 2, 2012 at 21:25 #399181Any thoughts on the Irish National Gord? If Quiscover Fontaine runs I’ll definitely be a backer. He stayed on nicely last year although was ridden like a non-stayer. He’s only gone up a pound from that run and is sure to close imo.
April 2, 2012 at 21:40 #399184It was last years Irish National that confirmed to me that
Sunnyhill Boy
was a good thing for the Kim Muir,so your ‘Quiscover Fontaine’ has to be a player mate in this years.Of course I’m all over
Magnanimity
,at 25/1 and 30’s!When he finally reproduces his RSA run from last year,he wins a big race, patience is a virtue Tommy.I say it time and time again that if a horse produces something special (his RSA run) he WILL reproduce it again…………..Its just a case of WHEN???
April 3, 2012 at 20:11 #399237VTC,I hope you have snaffled all the 20/1 on
Junior
mate for the Grand National,Loyalty and that eh?…..Or do you have the same reservation as me about his ability to Jump Aintree fences,it will be heart in mouth every time he takes off,all 4ft as thats as high as he gets!
If he gets round the first circuit he’s a player,if he’s 5 length of the leader at the last he wins,What a race it will be!
I just hope its not‘Calg’
who’s 5 lengths clear.
April 3, 2012 at 20:31 #399239I see the gambles in full flow now on this
Most Improved
for the 2000 gns,I looked and looked and looked at his 3 races as a 2yo and yes his form is virtually identical to
Delegator
at the same point of their respective careers and Brian Meehan was adamant that he was a Guineas winner all through the spring of 2009,he too was the subject of bullish reports and a constant flow of money saw his odds come in from 16/1 down to 3/1fav,it did help that he won the Craven like a Class horse so we’ll see if ‘Most Improved’ does the same, personally I cant see the comparisons and even if ‘Camelot’ and ‘Top Offer’ fail to make it he wont beat
Power
,he was the horse to take from the Dewhurst imo.
April 4, 2012 at 09:34 #399262Gord, ain’t got a bean on him for Aintree. I’m still recovering from him not going for The Gold Cup. I know I was practically the only person in the country who fancied him for it, but I couldn’t have him out the first 3. We’ll never know, but you know what I think of him, I really thought he would have went close.
As for Aintree, I think he’s a bit skinny at the moment, and I’m totally with you on his jumping round there……if he does jump round, and it’s a big if, if he’s there or thereabouts at the business end, he’ll be well up for the fight, and yeah, he wins. I’ll be shouting him home if he’s there, regardless of not backing him, he owes me nothing after last year.
My main fancy is Seabass, and been hammering at away at him since the entries came out. Took 36’s to 65’s, as well as a good few quid at 33’s with various firms. Even got an ew Double with Keegan Bradley for The Masters.
The trips a bit of an unknown, but you can say that for the majority of the field each year anyway. I just need him to line up to be in a good position overall.Had a bit of an early season disaster with GN, chipped away at 6 horses, and not one, not bloody one, was entered.
Can recover comfortably with Seabass, but certainly in the red at the moment. Also playing around with this lot.State of Play
85’s. Was gonna wait till the day to back him as I usually do, but thought might as well take 85’s rather than 33’s.
Midnight Chase
100’s to 190’s. One of my very faves, and takes a leap of faith to see him figure, but happy enough with those prices if he goes.
Arbor Supreme
110’s to 290’s. God knows what Jonjo’s got planned for him, and Sunnyhill would be more obvious as you’re well aware. Impossible to fancy after his previous attempts, but if he goes, I’ll be very, very happy.
Market looks ominous though.Psycho
300’s to 600’s. Looks like he’s heading for Faiyhouse.
Any Currency
180’s to 310’s. Thought he was worth a pop at the prices, has some decent form here and there. One of the better outsiders.
Ballyvesey
390’s to 1000’s. 3rd, albeit beaten a distance, in The Becher. Couldn’t resist the 1000’s. He’s at the bottom, so touch and go whether he gets in.
Tharawaat
330’s to 800’s. Gigginstowns only entry, trained by Gordon Elliot, and definitely goes. Good enough for me.
Sorry for rambling on, but as for other races, looking forward to Sanctuaire, and Get Me Out Of Here. I’m loathed to desert Rock On Ruby, but couldn’t resist a few quid at the big prices for GMOOH. The most underrated horse in training.
April 4, 2012 at 17:25 #399300Gord where you think SIMONSIG will go next year the RSA or Arkle. i hope it is the latter.I don’t think there be any horse who live with him over 2m over fences next year.
And gord any thoughts on the french horse ABATAL i think he was best 2yo in france and will be a top 3yo to watch in France.Races in maison laffite tomorrow.
April 4, 2012 at 20:43 #399317I’m with you darren,I think
Simonsig
is an Arkle horse,Fingal Bay is an RSA horse so the pair should be kept apart, this
Abtaal
is 20/1 for the 2000gns but i’ll be surprised if he turns up,a bit like
Naaqoos
the other Sheikh Hamden 2yo hotpot from France who failed to deliver.
April 4, 2012 at 20:58 #399319Sorry for rambling on, but as for other races, looking forward to Sanctuaire, and Get Me Out Of Here. I’m loathed to desert Rock On Ruby, but couldn’t resist a few quid at the big prices for GMOOH. The most underrated horse in training.
Anytime VTC,its good to read others opinions, particularly about a race who’s muddied waters can only now start to clear as the race fast approaches! Best race of the year and one you always just want to find the winner of,I love having a horse in with a chance with 6 to jump,if
Juniors
still standing and continues to the last fence he will win,I’ll be playing in running too!
April 5, 2012 at 13:40 #399376Gord as a punter i never had the national winner yet had State Of Play when he was 3rd behind Don’t Push it.But for me the one that got away was SIMON he fell when going so well, Silverbirch won instead but i always felt if SIMON did not fall he would of won.Do you remember this national.
April 5, 2012 at 13:58 #399377And i see my BONFIRE has been cut by most firms today for the derby because he was behind French Fifteen. but would of won in France if he got out earlier in the race.Be intresting to see where BONFIRE starts off in the season.
April 6, 2012 at 17:27 #399506Gord got another question for you which fillies do you think Gosden will run in 1000 guineas. He got THE FUGUE,ELUSIVE KATE
and a darkhorse in GATHERING i just saw her maiden win which was very impressive the 2nd was behind Wading next time to. - AuthorPosts
