I was more surprised Rite Of Passage won the stayers award with just one start. I wouldn’t give any award to any horse on the basis of one start, and that includes if they won the Arc by a furlong.
As for Goldikova, too many people are playing on the fact she’s won 3 Breeders’ Cup races, but she deserved the award 100%.
November 17, 2010 at 19:24 #328373Workforce is the only one who might have challenged her, but 2 very good performances in huge races and 2 disappointing ones makes it hard I guess.
Harbinger trotted up in a G2 and his only G1.
Goldikova 5/6 G1s with the loss a 2nd to Makfi on a wet track.November 17, 2010 at 20:42 #328379Goldikova deserved it, easily in my opinion.
I’m trying to think of any other stayers, can’t think of anyone except Overturn who have had a very good season?
Age of Aquarius was very unfortunate in the Gold Cup and the Goodwood Cup.
November 17, 2010 at 21:00 #328381Not sure you can award a horse Stayer Of The Year for winning the Northumberland Plate off 93 carrying 8-7

Maybe Gentoo?? won all four starts at 16f+ in 2010 including two group 1’s the Cadran and the Royal Oak.
Goldikova well deserved, fantastic race horse.

Well done Goldikova, you’re no Zarkava though!

And no Zenyatta either, but both retired while Goldi is still aimed at running next year.
I hope she actually stays in training and not sent off to stud.
