3 words for you …. A plus tard , look how far he,s fallen , GDC might hold his form but I doubt he’ll get better , remember it took Kauto 12 months to get over his first GC and GDC ain’t no Kauto

Galopin Des Champs looks a well-above average winner of the race to me, but then do did a fair few on that list.

It is historically a fact that it’s a contest few winners of if fully recover from so I do think HDLG has a valid point.

Apt was 2nd and 1st in it in successive years HDLG, and GDC would have beaten him both years

In recent years, weve had a dual winner, a dual 1st and 2nd

Anything pre that era is pointless, hes so lightly raced that i wouldnt be concerned, he’ll win at punchestown next month and then we can forget this theory..

GDC is 7. He will win again next year barring injury. Mullins did back to back with Al Boum Photo, he knows what he is doing.

    No horse is indestructible

Kauto Star ran 21 times before his first Gold Cup
GDC is lightly raced in comparison to him with 13 career runs

Kauto ran 5 times in the season before his Gold Cup, GDC ran twice

GDC is no Kauto but Bravemansgame and the opposition to GDC are no Denman

Mullins will give GDC a another light campaign.

A shame Mighty Potter is longer with us

the clutching of straws for anyone wanting to back an outsider in this race has certainly loosened the grip of said straws after yesterdays result

Has there been any news/info from the Lucinda Russell camp regarding whether Corach Rambler will be targeted at this?

The National was the aim with anything after that a “bonus” so could be targeted at this
no word from connections that I can find. Noise coming about because he beat Fastorslow at Cheltenham.
I don’t think Fastorslow was a fluke as such so can see the reasoning

    “I don’t think Fastorslow was a fluke…”

I think it may have been, funny results at Punchestown do happen. E.g. Kilcruit had Sir Gerhard beat at Punchestown, the following season Kilcruit struggled and Sir Gerhard won a Cheltenham grade 1.

It’s very possible fastorslow will never win a race again if it was a fluke which it most likely was

    Been put up to 168

Plenty will now be backing corach and fastorslow for this

I wouldn’t give either of them a hope in hell myself

He’s not just beat one but both.. Bravemansgame was due to run at Aintree so maybe he was kept fit from that point and was a bit over.. GDC season was geared around Cheltenham so I doubt Mullins would have had him in that shape for this race… BUT the best horse on the day won and totally deserved it. Going forward its possible he could repeat it although I can’t see it myself especially not at Cheltenham where the season is geared around but prep races etc I couldn’t totally rule him out

Fastorslow is still a young horse unexposed at a distance , GDC may well be be better at Cheltenham but in Ireland around 3 miles I can see some of the younger horses having a gear to many for him

Galopin des Champs is a couple of months younger than Fastorslow and I am Maximus and only 8 days older than Gerri Colombe. He has raced 3+ miles over fences 3 times, the other two horses twice. The only grade 1 3m Irish chasers appreciably younger than GDC are Bronn, who can jump and gallop but doesn’t appear to have much turn of foot, Adamantly Chosen who isn’t good enough on what he has shown so far, and Feronily who might be the best of these three, jumps, gallops and stays but gears still unknown.

I’m certainly in that camp Mike.. but any loss throws up question marks, big or small
at least 2/1 can be chipped in to other bets
