From the nap, lay and ew thread so as not to bung it up:

“Green what’s made you put up Eldorado , I’m sure they,’ll target the Denman again but after the Ryanair last year do you think they,’ll go GC ”

Yes. He was only entered in the Ryanair last year and they swithered about whether to supplement him for the GC after he won the Denman. He’s 9 now so realistically last chance to really go for it. Wasn’t stopping at the end of the Betfair or the KG (Kempton didn’t suit- wrong way round, he’s better left handed). He seems pretty relaxed and hunts round with his ears at half mast but can go fast enough and jump well enough not to get too far behind. He’s a bit of a journeyman but seems hardy and I think has a good chance of staying.

He’s 80-1 with b365 so worth a few bob ew.

I like him to , I just wonder if the Denman win left its mark on come chelt last year , saying that he does like his racing and rarely runs a bad race

“I’m packing in betting for ever and a day!”

I’ll believe that when I see it.

Never met TC, but he clearly loves the game and clearly loves a bet!

The Thinker won the Cheltenham Gold Cup having previously won a Midlands National and Burrough Hill Lad, Master Oats and Native River had won Welsh Nationals.

Synchronised won the Midlands National in 2010 before winning the Cheltenham Gold Cup two years later.

As for Grand National winners: Hedgehunter was runner up in the Gold Cup to War of Attrition the year after winning at Aintree. But I assume Golden Miller is the last (or only) horse to win the National and then win the Gold Cup the following year.

I can’t make Noble Yeats out. To even win a race after winning the National is fairly unusual, never mind being unbeaten after it when completing. I thought maybe he just loved Aintree, but he ran 1lb better than his Grand National Racing Post Rating when winning at Wexford. His Many Clouds win saw him up with the pace with decent horses for most of the race. I do think his apparent jetlike turn of foot coming to the last was probably exaggerated by the camera angle as he went noticeably left after the initiating smack from Bowen; the two in front seemed to slow at the same time. But there’s no denying the manner in which he stayed on to win very comfortably.

Is Cheltenham his course? Not enough evidence off just the one run in last year’s Ultima where he was 9th off 147. I might take the risk at 14s or 16s, but definitely not at 8s. Good luck though if you are on him, as VTC is at very big prices!

I suppose before Noble Yeats generally 7 yos didn’t win the National. So any winners were 8+ meaning that their Gold Cup attempts were at 9+. A very narrow window of opportunity.

Yes, noble yeats broke a hugely strong trend to win the grand national at that age

First since world war 2 iirc

And having backed the second, I will never forgive him for it as he was the first horse I put a line through because of his age

Re Noble Yeats imo I think the Aintree form is a bit suspect in the context of this race and he got put up to 167 for it. Ignoring A Plus Tard who faces a race against time, I’d have at least GDC, Protektorat and L’homme Presse ahead of him unless he is improving since he last ran. The likes of BMG Conflated Minella Indo and Stattler would be in the mix also to beat him i would say.

Haha thanks for the kind words and assertion of my incorrigible behaviour Ian.

I don’t think noble yeats’ form is anything to get carried away by. But he’s about the only horse at each way prices that has held his form in his racing each run this season. He’s certain to be improving and he’s not one I’d want to to lay either.

The whole complexion of the race looks a mess just now though. It should be 5/1 the field!

He’s a poor antepost selection simply because I can’t see him going off much if any shorter than he currently is

If these all turn up he’ll be 10/1+ on the day with 5 places e/w

“he’s about the only horse at each way prices that has held his form in his racing each run this season.”

Except he pulled up early at Autueil. Then, granted, won his next two starts- a listed chase and a G2- comfortably.
And BMG, who is a slighter bigger price, won his two starts – a G2 and a G1- comfortably.

L’Homme Presse I would say has also held his form- it’s fair to say he would have been second in the KG if not unshipping at the last and his mark didn’t change after it.
