Noble missing the KG and going to lingfield , prob best idea but I can’t help feeling he,s not quite classy enough to win this , can see him getting a place though
December 19, 2022 at 15:16 #1627436Nice start from Galopin Des Champs. Trip a bit on the sharp side but he won anyway.
December 19, 2022 at 15:18 #1627439Galopin des champs just looks very good doesn’t he
Seemed to settle much better today
December 19, 2022 at 16:34 #1627459The settling was key for me today, smashing horse Gallopin.
December 19, 2022 at 17:58 #1627468At 2s would you not want to know what happens when he comes off the bridle ….
December 19, 2022 at 18:39 #1627477I cashed out my Ryanair bet on GDC, I don’t think anything will beat him in the February 3m grade 1 myself, then it’s on to the Gold Cup.
December 19, 2022 at 18:52 #1627481GDC short odds already for Gold cup. I’m trying think back to what Kauto sta, Denman was and best mate in there days

December 19, 2022 at 19:21 #1627483But VF there form at this point was stronger ?
December 19, 2022 at 20:56 #1627491I don’t think form is necessary an issue if the potential to be a top notcher is there. Al Boum Photo won a listed chase at Tramore out of novice company and that was it before he won his first Gold Cup and this lad looks more exciting.
December 20, 2022 at 10:14 #1627514I don’t think I was getting much more than 3/1 on Kauto Star for the Gold Cup 2007 after he won the Haydock race.
Blackbeard to conquer the World
December 20, 2022 at 10:30 #1627517The thing is, from what I’ve seen over the years, instances of horses winning the Cheltenham Gold Cup while actually being ideally suited by shorter distances are rare to non-existent.
It’s not simply a question of “staying the trip,” it’s a question of being able to produce your career best at it.
And the shorter the odds, the more the value-seeking punter will put a horse under the microscope.
At 7/1 you’d surely back Galopin Des Champs to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup in a heart beat.
At 7/2 you might still think about it – if he’s fully effective at the trip he might only have a back-to-form A Plus Tard as a serious obstacle.
But at 7/4?
No, thanks.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"December 20, 2022 at 10:41 #1627521Last season he looked raw and ready to take off both in running and over the fences.
Yesterday he settled nicely in behind and jumped the fences with less exuberance although you’d hope he can still produce the exhilarating jumps if asked upon.
I think this will certainly help conserve energy in a longer distance race and would make his prospects for the Gold Cup better than before the race yesterday.Blackbeard to conquer the World

I don’t see why not.
Sizing John – a good horse over 2 miles but not the best, then won the Gold Cup a year later.
A Plus Tard – a good horse over 2 and a half miles but not the best, then the following seasons 2nd and a 1st in Gold Cups.An emphatic 3 miles grade 1 hurdles win will also help his cause and now he is a stronger more mature horse.
A Plus Tard would present a bit of a challenge were he to come back to form but he has been dining at the top table for a couple of seasons already so one wonders if he can produce that last performance again.

It could be argued that a horse has to be slower than it ever has been before to win a Gold Cup. 😉
December 21, 2022 at 05:21 #1627626I see skybet and paddy power are 13/8 …. Yes you read that correct …. I’ll say again absolutely barmy for what the horse has done
December 21, 2022 at 06:24 #1627630I’m more inclined to agree with Mike. Al Boum Photo is another who didn’t win over 3 miles till his first Gold Cup, when he was Mullins’ third string in the betting. I take your point about GDC’s price Ian, but having watching his economical jumping in the John Durkan I would think he has a good chance of getting it.
I don’t think we’ll find out before the big day as I expect he will run in that grade 2 at Thurles that Allaho won the past couple of years.
