A Plus Tard is IMO an above average Cheltenham Gold Cup winner and still a relatively young horse.
I’m not seriously looking for an alternative unless he gets injured or disappoints.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"November 9, 2022 at 11:35 #1622355A Plus Tard is as good as a certainty unless last year’s race has left a mark. That does have to be a concern.
November 9, 2022 at 13:22 #1622361“I think they said he would be campaigned conservatively pre gold cup.”
This is what I find frustrating about the National Hunt season now. The domination of the Cheltenham Festival has ruined it.
“Why build a horse’s season around one race which it is probably not going to win? There are plenty of other good races it could win, especially if the Irish contingent stays at home.
What if the horse gets injured the day before Cheltenham? A whole season would have been lost.
It is madness.”
I don’t normally wish ill on any horse but I would have a right chuckle if all the cotton wool merchants got a snotty nose or a wee stone bruise on the morning of the Big Day leaving the grade 1 horses that have been racing in grade 1 races to contest the prize.
November 9, 2022 at 15:12 #1622371Completely agree cork
(Edit, about the season bring way too Cheltenham centric not about APT being a certainty)
November 11, 2022 at 05:32 #1622497If he wasn’t to turn up chelt week they have a decent reserve ….
November 19, 2022 at 10:28 #1623694Protektorat is 33s so I’ve taken that. I think he’ll win today.
November 19, 2022 at 14:01 #1623777Can understand your view GG but I just don’t think he,s classy enough , still a young horse though , has Skelton talked about how fit he is for today ?
November 19, 2022 at 15:08 #1623816That turns the market upside down. Rachel Blackmore did not look happy even as they were turning for home.
November 19, 2022 at 15:13 #1623822He was beaten starting the 2nd circuit …never jumped either
November 19, 2022 at 15:18 #1623823You must be loving that 33s Green?
November 19, 2022 at 15:34 #1623832Henry had a strange season last year after a stellar 2020/21. He’s had a below par start to this season now, albeit with tragic personal circumstances to take into account.
November 19, 2022 at 15:45 #1623833I don’t think the Gold Cup left its mark for APT personally. He only runs 3 times a season and had what looked a harder Gold Cup race when 2nd and still able to win the following year. Today for whatever reason he didn’t travel.
November 19, 2022 at 15:47 #1623834Another case of the Gold Cup curse? Probably too early to say but the race does leave its mark.
A few of us mentioned after APT’s win that he possibly had an unnecessarily hard race. Unless APT can put today’s effort behind him, that impression is still going to be there.
November 19, 2022 at 16:38 #1623841Mike would you play or lay next time ? , likely the Irish GC ?
November 19, 2022 at 16:54 #1623846You have got a great bet there, Green.
Looking at the market, the favourite is now a horse that has never raced outside of novice company and races enthusiastically. Is he the sort of horse you would want to ride in a Gold Cup?
APT has big questions to answer.
I cannot fancy L’Homme Presse on the likely good ground.
Allaho would be interesting but he is on the sidelines.
Protektorat will go there, he jumps and stays, is consistent and might be improving. Even the current top price 12/1 with Ladbrokes is not a bad price.
My main concern would be Harry Skelton on his back, given he has not always covered himself in glory at Cheltenham.
November 19, 2022 at 17:05 #1623852With the Gold Cup curse passed over from Minella Indo to A Plus Tard in March, Indo to roll back the years and storm up the hill to regain his crown to near silence with the exception of a screeching TakeYourTime who always kept the faith
November 19, 2022 at 18:25 #1623864Didn’t go a yard did he
Hopefully he is fine and will run in the savills at Christmas like usual
He’s run poorly on reappearance every season bar ast year but obviously never this bad
