Strength of his finish relative to the weakness of Fury Roads though? This a Fury Road who Conflated comfortably dispatched.
February 4, 2023 at 17:57 #1633878Paul was just letting him pop away, didn’t ask him for a big one at any point
He can jump big when asked if needed
February 4, 2023 at 18:07 #1633879He ballooned at least 2 and was in close at a couple more
February 5, 2023 at 12:15 #1633986He might win by default because the horses who have impressed me more are either out for the season, disappointed last time or couldn’t win an egg and spoon race in the month of March.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"February 5, 2023 at 12:58 #1633995Really not convinced by that win
He’s an incredible horse but think he’s better over 2.5
Winners have a poor record in the Cheltenham equivalent, possibly because it’s a different test of a horse
I’ll be very interested in Simon Rowland’s sectional analysis
February 5, 2023 at 13:02 #1633997I think if there was another 2 furlongs to run yesterday he’d have won further as he wasn’t stopping at all.
sectionals will be interesting but he looks a worthy favourite to meBlackbeard to conquer the World
February 5, 2023 at 13:14 #1634005Ask yourself this – who else among the Cheltenham Gold Cup entries could beat OR 163 Stattler by eight lengths going away?
I’m sure A Plus Tard could – last year!
I think L’Homme Presse could – only he’s out for the season!
I reckon on his Haydock Park form Protektorat could – but he ran at Cheltenham like his wind had gone again!
I suspect Bravemansgame could – if it was before 1st March at somewhere other than Cheltenham!
The rest might struggle to beat Stattler, never mind Galopin Des Champs.

The Gold Cup will be the strongest Chase he has run in. He is no value at 6/4 and I would want him to drift out considerably before thinking of backing him.
February 5, 2023 at 13:24 #1634011Another 2 at Leopardstown is different to another 2 on the New Course but I’ll watch the replay without the emotion of the live experience
February 5, 2023 at 13:28 #1634013On pure ability he will carry this lot. He is certainly more relaxed, if he jumps clean and Paul puts him to sleep he won’t need waking up until turning for home. A fast pace will suit as long as his jumping holds up, a slow pace or normal pace and its go collect

Not so sure about that, Nathan. I’d say the actual form shown by A Plus Tard in winning last season’s Gold Cup is ahead of anything Galopin Des Champs has done.
The problem, of course, is that APT has only run once since and blew out completely.
February 5, 2023 at 13:34 #1634015ATP prep has been shot to pieces, wouldn’t touch him with a barge pole at this point

February 5, 2023 at 13:47 #1634017In order to decline to touch something with a barge pole one would first need to own a barge pole.
And in order to own a barge pole one would presumably first need to own a barge.
As stated above, OR 180 A Plus Tard is about 10lb ahead of this horse in Chezza’s book, but that form is “so last year, darling” and Chezza isn’t seeing what can beat Galopin Des Champs THIS year.
That said, at 6/4 he’s not one to bet the barge on.

I’ll be on GDC at 150/1, 125/1 and 100/1
I won’t be cashing out or partially cashing out either, that is for wimps..Blackbeard to conquer the World

Steeplechasing: *clears throat politely*
February 5, 2023 at 15:05 #1634061Very occasionally the big tell in a big race is not what happens between start and finish, but in the minute afterwards – Galopin Des Champs took quite some time to pull up, looking like a horse who has just learned the human equivalent of riding a bike and is looking forward to getting back on. Short version: the penny has dropped and he has the energy and stamina to make the best of it. I was surprised they pushed him out in price.
February 5, 2023 at 17:21 #1634123Nathan what’s been said about Vega ? , lit up which didn’t help but went out like a light
