Been looking at the entries looks low grade to me if one of the two big guns drop out not left with much.
And if they both run could be looking at a six runner field or worse .
Could turn out to be as big a fiasco as 92 Gold Cup.

When you have superstars like Mill House Arkle Denman and Kauto Star everything else looks ordinary but were they not there you would still have a competitive race on paper.
Imperial Commander and Cooldine would be thought of in a much different way.
The fact is we have 2 top class horses expected to meeet for a decider……..enjoy it while you can
January 15, 2010 at 16:07 #270065Have to agree that this could really cut up.
But if both Kauto and Denman lock horns then it really is just a race to watch and savour.
I have never benn a big Kauto fan before the King George but that was the most awesome performance I have seen and it will be just a pleasure to be around to watch it.
As for a punt on the race….If i do it will be a very small wager on Madison Du Berlais.

January 15, 2010 at 20:15 #270134It doesn’t take a big field to make a good race-even a match race betweeen talents like Denman and Kauto Star would be a treat. In these sorts of races there isn’t any value in betting a no-hoper or an odds-on favorite, so it’s best to just enjoy the spectacle.
Horses like Imperial Commander, Cooldine, and Madison du Berlais aren’t exactly chopped liver, and if the two stablemates wear themselves out in battle, any of them could steal the Cup.

WRECOnly problem there is that Madison Du hates Cheltenham. Never ran his race on any of his visits there and can’t see it changing this season….

Yeah, i suppose that could happen if you believe in pixies aswell.

It’s horse racing, and it’s a steeplechase-nothing is set in stone until race has been run.
January 18, 2010 at 19:57 #270704Neither one of them have perfect jumping records and we all know what Kauto’s like. One could fall and bring the other down very easily. As far as i’m concerned this is still an open race.
January 20, 2010 at 20:17 #271154Miss Woodford. You know they’re relatively new to the game when they speak with such certainty. It’s odds on they’re youngsters.
January 20, 2010 at 20:53 #271162You know they’re fogeys when they can’t back it up by laying a price on the machine. PM me if you intend to lay.

Cerium’s more likely to cause that sadly.

Won’t happen Peter. Ruby isn’t silly and neither is PN. If you watch last years Gold Cup you’ll find Neptune Collonges Denman and Kauto race centre wide and rails so if one falls it won’t affect the others.
They’re way ahead of you buddy.

Yeah i know, but hey they all have four legs and they can all slip. I’m not trying to take them out of the picture altogether as that would just be silly. Goodness knows that it’s most likely gonna be one of them two who wins, but i’m still convinced the race is still relatively open based on the magic word; luck.
March 11, 2010 at 09:52 #281618Madison now out of the mix and going straight to Aintree according to Pipe… man this Gold Cup really is starting to slim in terms of class…

How can even a three runner race including Kauto, Denman and Imperial Commander be "slim on class"? Three highly gifted animals that would be competitive at their best in any Gr1 event over steeples at a distance. The race may lack depth but it sure doesn’t lack class.
man this Gold Cup really is starting to slim in terms of class…

What would Madison add to the mix?!

The horse never performs at Cheltenham and connections are spot on to give it a miss. His defection takes nothing away from a fantastic Gold Cup.
March 11, 2010 at 16:27 #281731I meant in terms of
number
of classy horses. But please don’t hold back when you have a point to make. Makes me wonder how much you really mean what you say.

Sure Madison wouldn’t have added much, but he’s still a class act regardless of his record at the course.
