At least Captain Cody won’t need to go up in the weights for the National ;o)

That was rough watch for a 3 miler , not a good few days for Townsend , poor Spanish didn’t deserve that , Mullins doing a nice job hiding that Gigginstown horse mind

Another valuable lesson for those taking 7/2 about anything in that size of field in deep ground: madness.

Fecking hell, what a calamity of a finish.

Thought my luck was in then pipped on the line. WD winners.

Townend is having a shocker of a season imo and really needs to be getting his act together. It’s just blunder after blunder in the big races.

Fecked up on Ballyburn in the Hattons Grace
Got his whip stuck in the closing stages of the King George on Gaelic Warrior
Hit every fence and fell on Il Etait Temps last week
Now falls again on the hot favourite in the Thyestes. Willie Mullins lit up when talking about this horse the other day. They fancied him hugely for this.

That’s just a select few but he’s been regularly outridden by Kennedy all this season.

Well done winners. Harsh on Spanish Harlem backers.

Well done Wilts and Kendicate :yahoo:

Didn’t watch but sounds like Spanish Harlem was very unlucky, such a tough watch for his supporters.🫣

Hope green is right and they all came home safely. :rose: Jac

I was worried about Pied Piper. Only eight but seems to have been around forever. I backed him today out of loyalty even though he’s a terrible jumper.

I know Elliott has graded 3 mile hurdlers coming out of his ears, but I was always surprised Pied Piper went over fences in the first place. I thought he would have been ideal for the Stayers hurdle, or one of the big handicaps.

I wonder if the faith in Willy Mullins’s enthusiastic judgement led backers to overlook the obvious risks, risks that the going increased. Then there was (I think) Pricewise picking out Captain Cody. Last year, the winner, Nick Rockett, was similarly heavily supported generally, but the grounds for that support were far more firmly based in terms of form, ratings and speed.

Am I wrong in thinking that the multiple attempts to get a (fair) start (six or seven?) were more than likely to produce a random result. Townend arrived towards the end of the first grouping, presumably to try to find a good start, but it became anything but straightforward. I did not see what led to him being unseated. I guess that it was out of his hands.

Given the going, there were so many horses which had a real chance and I think that the betting overall did reflect that, with a significant number of runners in a relatively narrow band. The winner was well within that band.

Sending flat breds chasing rarely works green. I don’t think it’s fair to the horse personally. Joseph O’Brien did the same thing with Nurburgring which ended in disaster.
He cost that poor horse it’s life.

I thoughtthey stopped sending that Coollmore crap over obstacles. Especially after what happened to Sir Eric.
JP, for instance, buys completely different stock.

Nice stuff Wilts and Kendicate, I didn’t think he was going to get
there. You have to hand it to young Eoin Staples, that 5lb claim
came in handy. Sergeant Cecil and Ruby, my heart bleeds for you
guys with that last fence blunder. I know I’ll not be with most
here, I’ve just never been a big fan of Paul Townend. He’s ridden
some good races but then when you’re getting the call on the
Mullins horses, you would expect him to.
