Your very welcome Ian!
Just been reading online peoples thoughts of it all lol
August 5, 2023 at 16:47 #1658742I do not disagree with the decision, Ginger. It was inevitable once the jockeys said the bends were unsafe. But if the pull up area was unsafe, should they have run the Stewards Cup? Did that area only become unsafe after that race?
Racing is open to the accusation “make sure we get the big race in, then abandon”.
August 5, 2023 at 17:16 #1658749I’m somewhat surprised the Stewards Cup went ahead after the conditions from the previous race.
The more I know the less I understand.
August 5, 2023 at 17:29 #1658755Will the three remainder races be rerooted and run elsewhere or just l left as non event?
VF x
August 5, 2023 at 17:32 #1658757I doubt they will be rescheduled. It was only two handicaps and a maiden.
August 5, 2023 at 19:08 #1658772How many races need to be run for racegoers not to get their tickets refunded?
Because the ground looked awful for both the 3pm and 3:35pm
August 5, 2023 at 19:13 #1658773Marquand commented after winning the Lily Langtry had the weather been like this at the start they probably wouldn’t have gone ahead.
The more I know the less I understand.
August 5, 2023 at 19:39 #1658784Not sure but I think it is a 50% refund if only three or fewer races have been run. After that it is no refund, so the spectators today are out of luck.
It would have been a nice gesture if Goodwood had offered free or half price entry to a future meeting but I suppose the logistics might be difficult.
August 5, 2023 at 20:19 #1658796Weirdly enough I was speaking to someone about this a few weeks back, and as it was a passing conversation and one that I didn’t think would bear any meaning, I can’t for certain remember the answer, but I’m pretty sure I was told 4 races meant the course aren’t required to give refunds.

A coincidence I’m sure
August 6, 2023 at 00:07 #1658841Soft, g/s in place before the first, comical stuff
August 6, 2023 at 00:51 #1658844I’d love to know where that gd to soft was
In one of the bars maybe
August 6, 2023 at 10:13 #1658875To be honest Goodwood is an incredibly unique place, its positioning, at the top of a hill, right infront of a valley, also right by the sea, means it has its own climate, it’s regularly windy as hell up there when there’s no wind anywhere else, or not windy at all when it’s incredibly windy a few minutes away, or the same with rain.
I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the ground was soft, gd-soft in places and then became as bad as it did. The weather has been terrible for weeks, meaning not as much rain as usual would be required to change the going. Unless you were there yesturday you’ll struggle to understand the level of monsoon that hit the track during the card. I think people also fail to realise it was dry for over 24 hours before yesturday, with the winds up there that’s certainly enough to dry the ground out, the clerk did his walk prior to 7am when it was still dry, however it started raining less than 30mins after him and the crew had finished their walk and it rained almost non-stop (baring a few 5min spells where it stopped) until the first race at 1.50pm. That’s almost 7 hours of rain! And that 7 hours of rain wasn’t even the heaviest stuff, the heaviest stuff came right before and then even heavier during the 3.00pm (and lasted for approximately 15minutes), I watched that race from the track and walked to my car after the race, I cannot tell you how wet I became in those 15 minutes, my clothes were absolutely drenched, my car seat is actually still wet and soggy from when I sat in it, my trousers were almost falling down my ankles (not a pretty sight) due to the amount of extra weight they were carrying from all of the water that’d just fallen.
Having been there almost every day for the past 2 months, I’m not at all surprised that the going could have changed as much as it did throughout the day. Typically enough, it’s really sunny here now! Fingers crossed the Bank Holiday meeting is kinder to us.
August 6, 2023 at 10:26 #1658877“incredibly unique” – but it’s Ben, and he can absolutely do no wrong after this week, so he’s readily forgiven.
And degree of uniqueness howler aside, so much I find myself agreeing with there.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"August 6, 2023 at 10:45 #1658882I have to thank Ben for keeping us updated right through the meeting.
We can get an idea by what we see on the telly, but it was invaluable
getting the constant updates from Ben. You’ve now become “the man from
the track” for Goodwood Ben. People will tune in here rather than the
weather stations at the next meeting. Goodwood Ben, it has a ring to it
August 6, 2023 at 10:53 #1658884100% agree with Graham – phenomenal from Ben this week over the whole five days.
I found it invaluable.
