If Snow fairy is as good as she was last season she’ll take some beating Pants. Think she has a better chance than St Nich, just make the Irish horse a bit better value.
The going is a bit of a worry for me with Ortensia, however, at 7/2 she’s now gone out to a price better than my "price to beat". I make both Ortensia and Bated Breath 25% 3/1 chances. ie If you asked me will the two favs come out on top (50%) or the field (50%)? I couldn’t answer.
I’ve made Emulous the saver instead of the main bet only because of the gap between Royal Ascot and today, and don’t believe the going excuse either. Though she’d win fairly easily if all’s well.
Hope the Girls win you the dosh today Pants!

Thought the ladies were going to let me down Ginge (don’t they always ) Good old Snow Fairy saved the day and in some style, backed her for The Arc at 20/1 last week, not certain to line up but if she does and gets her ground she won’t be far away.
Ortensia had her excuses but not sure she’d have beaten the impressive winner, I’d ruled him out due to the fast surface…. Bated Breath is just below top grade, looked to have everything going for him here but not quite good enough.
Mixed feelings regards Chacha, pleased for all concerned that she got her G1 but slightly unsatisfactory in it’s manner (I was very surprised Duntle didn’t keep the race) but annoyed I’d not backed her for the first time in a good while. Emulous ran her race and had no excuses in running but maybe the ground was a little on the firm side.
Any early thoughts for The Ledger? Keen to take on Camelot, am leaning towards Thought Worthy e/w at 11/1, Gosden’s record is fantastic in the race, can he follow in Lucarno’s footsteps? Thomas Chippendale looks over priced at 25/1 so might have another e/w dabble on him.
September 11, 2012 at 14:49 #412796I am also opposing Camelot at the price. Too short for me at 2/5. Worth taking on long odds-on shots when unimpressive in their latest start. Irish Derby nowhere near the form of Epsom; racing with head a bit high. Maybe it was the ground, but similar to Newmarket. Unusually for the St Leger, it could be said Camelot faces stronger opposition than he’s faced all year.
I’m already on a couple:
St Leger
18 points each way @ 14/1 (L) Michelangelo*
18 points each way @ 14/1 (L) Thomas Chippendale*Unfortunately, both shortened up then disappointed in trials and drifted.
At least both (at the moment) still take part. Michelangelo only third in the Gordon Stakes. Ran ok, not given at all a hard ride once chance had gone. Didn’t have the turn of foot, held up in a 12f race. Should be much better suited by Saturday’s trip. Michelangelo is a good looking individual and can progress. However, needs to improve an awful lot in one go.
It may or may not be significant that Thomas Chippendale has improved on a soft surface. Below form in a very slowly run Voltigeur, held up and didn’t fully settle. Thought Worthy kicking on turning for home and steeling the race. It’s possibly best to ignore the York run and by doing so (I agree) looks a good each way bet at current odds. Better than I’ve got. At this stage though, I’d wait until final decs are made just in case he’s pulled out.
Although as said Thought Worthy nicked the Voltigeur, another couple of furlongs will probably suit him more than anything he beat that day. Even without York, Thought Worthy would stand a chance. Wouldn’t like to put you off. It must be a difficult decision for Buick to make. Thought Worthy having the better form, yet Michelangelo possibly the more scope for improvement.
Yet to take a good look at the likes of Guarantee and Ursa Major.
