Cheveton didn’t look fully fit, running ok for 4th. Winner, soft ground performer Mirza very well backed 6/1 to 7/2 on course. Getting the better of Blue Jack who couldn’t quicken on this surface.2:40 Newbury

Safarjal is evidently a morning glory. Works like a really good horse at home. However, has a high head carriage and raced with a hood and ear plugs to keep her calm. Though in fairness didn’t do anything noticeably wrong this time, staying on for a never nearer 3rd.

Stupid bet, Gold Rally had form on the surface, but others had more improvement in them. Too many imponderables, even in a 4 horse race. Winner Ektihaam could be decent, but had things fall his way a bit. Wrotham Heath not settling and Gold Rally looked poor in the paddock.Sentrail and Vow looked potentially pattern class for Willie Haggas in the maidens, although the soft ground did stop some showing their form.

Harris Tweed continued the fine form of the Harris team (Fury also going close later on). Taking advantage of Arctic Cosmos not acting on the ground (looked amiss and almost pulled up). Harris Tweed has a good record on a soft surface and likes making the running. Allied Powers has been gelded and loomed up dangerously; but never finds much under pressure.

Doubts about Best Terms stamina weren’t answered. Wouldn’t have won after 4 furlongs, let alone 7. She’s small and possibly hasn’t trained on, but running so flat something might be amiss. Has won on good-soft but may be this was too soft. Proven soft ground lover Moonstone Magic almost halved in price won well. Going likely to be important in where she goes next, Irish Guineas? Trainer Ralph Beckett may be a trainer to keep an eye on, in his second season at Kimpton.

Mull Of Killoch couldn’t get in to it from the back. Possibly racing on the worst part of the track (stand side). Good to see Captain Bertie get compensation for a very unlucky run at Doncaster. Not given so much to do, unlike Fury who looks to have well and truly got over what ailed him last year. Global Village ran well in 3rd, just finding a couple better handicapped. George Guru travelled well for a long way but found little. Take It To The Max wasn’t suited by being held up (last). Emilio Largo stays a mile and acts on soft ground, but does she stay a mile on soft ground?

With so many non-runners, could’ve gone in again on course, but Minimise Risk was a little on his toes in the paddock. Came clear with Uriah Heep and both have improvement in them. Latter ran green and has a maiden at his mercy. King Of Dudes very well backed, even considering the non-runners, but didn’t seem to act in conditions. Not given a hard time once beaten.
Bets in 4 races, 4 winners, although did have a losing on course bet in the Greenham. Also 1 win from 1 race over jumps, Merigo in Scottish National
