Have got another bet on Elzaam ante-post somewhere will see if I can find it.
Value Is EverythingJune 17, 2011 at 18:05 #36124526 points @ 16/1 (FD) Elzaam
Gotcha, here it is. Shame the going has probably gone against Delegator and Elzaam. Might get out of the latter too later.
Value Is EverythingJune 17, 2011 at 19:59 #36125526 points @ 16/1 (FD) Elzaam
Going to get out of most of Elzaam…
LAY 20 points @ 16/1 Elzaam

38 points @ 14/1 (Paddy Power) Delegator
6 points @ 16/1 (backed 26 points then laid 20) Elzaam
28 points @ 11/2 (WH) BewitchedJust added my Elzaam bets to the above.
Now:
26 points @ 12/1 (VC bog) Hooray
8 points @ 59/1 (betfair) Hitchens
16 points @ 12/1 (betfair) Bated BreathValue Is EverythingJune 17, 2011 at 21:04 #361264My two ante-post bets are Delegator 14/1 and Elzaam 16/1. Am now on a free bet with the former by laying it @ 5.2/1 and got out of most of the latter at the same price as I’ve backed it (now acting as a saver bet). However, those lay bets will be cancelled if they’re non-runners, so may well lose out on both.
Hope you’re following so far…..
On that ground I rate Delegator a fair 8/1 shot and Elzaam 14/1.
I’ve now taken 13/1
Hooray
(I make her a fair 7/1 shot). Her best run in the Chieveley Park was in similar conditions. Might also get an easy lead on her side (2). The other two front runners that I can see are drawn 15 and 17.
Bewitched
looks good value at around 11/2 (I make him a fair 9/2). Goes extremely well on a soft surface and improving, beat Zoffany last time which looks even better now. Stays further than 6f which should help in the conditions.
Bated Breath
seems to be on the drift. But was less than a length behind the winner on soft ground last year. At the time right up to his best. True, improvement has come on firmer, but there must be a fair chance he acts on it. Although by Dansili, he’s a half brother to Cityscape who loves soft. Worth chancing at around 12/1 (I make him a fair 8/1).
Hitchens
looks massive at 59/1 (my fair price is just 25/1). Reversed placings with Tiddliwinks last time (finishing first and second) from their meeting in the Duke Of York. If it was Hichens who improved, instead of Tiddliwinks running a little below form….. Then on a line through that horse at York, Hitchens could be rated above Delegator. Have to take on trust his ability to go on the ground, but has some form on good-soft.
Another winning day today with 3 winners from 4 races (one as a saver).
Value Is EverythingJune 17, 2011 at 23:13 #361293Hardwicke Stakes
12 points @ 13.5/1 Drunken Sailor
15 points each way @ 12/1 (b365) Passion For GoldValue Is EverythingJune 18, 2011 at 00:37 #361304My 100% book prices are:
Await The Dawn 20/21,
Drunken Sailor 8/1, Passion For Gold 9/1,
Campanologist 12/1, Calvados Blues 18/1, Poet 18/1, Laaheb 18/1, Harris Tweed 28/1, Kings Gambit 100/1
Best value bets are in my opinion:
Both Drunken Sailor and Passion For Gold each way or better still… Two win only bets with saver bets at place odds. To get back enough to break even if one horse places.Await The Dawn has bags of potential, but on very soft ground that at least 4 of his rivals are proven on… I’d need odds against for the favourite to back it. Should stay and may even be suited by the step up in trip. But going up by two furlongs on very soft going is more like adding 3 furlongs to the distance. Especially with seemingly a lot of pace in the field.
Drunken Sailor
is consistent and won with a bit in hand at Newbury. Proven on soft ground and the ground conditions will bring his stamina in to play.
Passion For Gold
won a 1m2f Group 1 on heavy ground as a two year old. Got the run of the race last time, but still didn’t look 100% fit in the paddock (to this non-expert’s eye). Lightly raced and could yet improve.
