Thanks RA and THM,
Still backing too many horses in each race. Carvills Hill was right to a certain extent. Having one, may be two saver bets is fine; but having savers to get back what I lose on savers is a waste of time and money. I probably would win more if eliminating some savers, but it does help confidence.
I think there are many reasons for the improvement.
The main one is by taking even more notice of trainers in form. In the past I had done so but mainly early season. Now it’s throughout. Doing my own working out using sportinglife.com’s three week record of every trainer in the race. Paying attention to "in form" not neccessarily "winning form" and not neccessarily going back as far as three weeks if the trainer has had a lot of runners. Also using sp’s to judge whether horses had run to form. ie an odds-on shot finishing second probably not, a 33/1 shot finishing 4th of 16 probably yes. Not to pedantic in the judging, just an impression is enough. Most of my main bets are on those who’s trainers are in very good form.
I’m now less likely to forgive a fundamental problem. eg In the past, a horse who looked as though it didn’t act on the going or stay would often still be backed – as my allowance of that fact still made the horse value in my 100% book. Now the allowance rarely makes such a horse "value".
Used to be a member of another forum. Giving up that one has helped in both time and fitness.
More use of my own knowledge which nobody else has. So more "edge".
In the past I’ve been trying too hard in search of the elusive and not taking enough account of the obvious.
Noticeable last year had such a poor record at festival meetings. This year barely a festival goes by without making a profit. Guilty of rushing study time to fit in more races. Something I’ve been conciously working to eradicate.
However, I’m just waiting for a long losing run to crush my profit!

Give me a shout if you’re ever going to Newbury, Goodwood or Salisbury.Though it will have to be a Diet-Coke as I don’t drink at the races.
