One can appreciate Art Connoisseur being favourite given his win in the Coventry at Ascot and his likely appreciation of the underfoot conditions at Newbury. 7/4, though, is a little short as the Coventry may not have been a vintage one and his low draw tomorrow may just possibly prove a disadvantage.Brian Smart’s Spin Cycle (R Mullen) at 10s deserves to take his chance on the basis of his Norfolk stakes second to South Central. The fast 5f course at Goodwood may not have suited him last time out. The ground and the 6f test here is unknown territory for the colt.
Good Luck if your’re playing in this one
August 22, 2008 at 10:34 #177646Marine Boy to make all.

August 22, 2008 at 10:42 #177655Marine Boy’s a One Cool Cat from an unstoppable trainer who predicts this one to be the best of his juvenile yard.
But you’ve got Art Connoisseur, Spin Cycle, Shaweel amongst others with stronger form AND most importantly, more race experience.
Interestingly, no G1 nominations for Marine Boy.
Not betting in this one.
August 22, 2008 at 10:52 #177658The way he was backed at Newbury suggests that he had been showing plenty against Group winners at home.
He was very impressive when winning at Newbury.
But, he has only won a maiden, and even though the second has franked the form, this is a huge step up.
If he is capable of winning this it will speak volumes for his trainer, in my opinion.

He’s a gelding, and I believe that’s the only reason he isn’t entered in G1s, i.e. he isn’t eligible!
August 22, 2008 at 11:05 #177663Is that simply a traditional part of racing law, or do you Britons have to be THAT elitist?
August 22, 2008 at 11:29 #177666Don’t restart the "should geldings be allowed to run in The Derby topic?", please.

I got a severe scorching last time!

August 22, 2008 at 12:28 #177679Marine Boy, for me. It might have only been a maiden but the time for a horse making his debut was splendid.
August 22, 2008 at 13:14 #177687Really like the top three in the betting, but dont like the prices, if the ground was quicker I would probably have a go on deposer at 20-1, but as it stands, i think I’ll play Shaweel e/w at 14-1 in the hope that he can do something from the front.
Im hoping the turn in ground may see a resurgence of the one cool cats and so Marine boy looks decent but he is far too short. Can forgive Art Connoiseur for a bad run last time, as something definitely looked amiss, and he is possibly not a bad price at 15/8, not a price I’d want to play though. The johannesburg horse Jobe could go well at 7-1, but again I’d want a better price than that as he may want 7f, being out of a Conquistador cielo mare.
Shaweel e/w @ 14-1 for interests sake but think a lot of this field want faster conditions.
August 22, 2008 at 13:51 #177693Nice One, Bulwark! Hope you had a few quid on.
My selection didn’t act on the ground and the market knew it
August 22, 2008 at 14:21 #177698Cheers Zilzal, only had a few quid on for interests sake, didnt expect him to win like that. Still think most of field would have been disadvantaged by ground so wouldnt think form is as strong as it first appears.
Think I’ll have a little go on the yearling stakes as theres some nice e/w prices there.
Noble Jack e/w @ 50-1
Heliodor e/w @ 100-1
Evelyn May e/w @ 50-1 and
Elnawin e/w @ 50-1August 22, 2008 at 14:26 #177699Is that simply a traditional part of racing law, or do you Britons have to be THAT elitist?

A poll of brood mares resulted in a resounding vote that wedding tackle has to be in working order for these races.

Nice pick Bulwark though the result leaves the form pretty muddled.
August 22, 2008 at 14:44 #177700If only they came in like that all the time, what a day for the e/ws so far.

14-1 and a 50-1 straight after.
August 22, 2008 at 22:46 #177742Well picked indeed, Bulwark…
Now, a £10 double at 14/1and 50/1 pays….
