I am presuming that the regulations in Ireland are similar to those in Britain, where Der Spiegler has almost another 11 months when he is categorised as a Novice Hurdler.
June 3, 2009 at 12:00 #231694I really don’t know Gerald…would be great if someone could enlighten me there???
there hardly seems to be any novice races in Ireland for some reason, mostly maidens…
we got a handicap rating of 106 after his Killarney win, which I thought was a bit harsh, but then I’m no expert!
September 9, 2009 at 11:37 #247983Der Spieler returns to the track on Tuesday after his Summer rest in Listowel. Keep your fingers crossed, he’s got a pretty hard task ahead of him for the first start of the new season.
September 9, 2009 at 21:39 #248043Yes, it will be good training for the Lake races!
Currently unraceable.
Another inspection tomorrow, for Sunday’s start to the meet.
September 11, 2009 at 11:24 #248256Oh those Irish…

Listowel has passed the inspection, but they’re bringing Tuesdays National Hunt races forward to Monday…me, got my flight booked for Monday…

don’t believe it, changed my ticket to Sunday (at a cost, you know these cheapie things). will Listowel pay me the difference I wonder…

Just had a quick look on the RP site – no mention about the moving of races.
Is this something to do with them having time to try to put the divots back in place before the Kerry National on Wednesday???

September 12, 2009 at 02:24 #248383Have just woken up – which rather confused me, as I wasn’t planning to go asleep.
No mention of the reason there, either, nor on sportinglife.
However . . . have just worked out that maybe it will give the Flat horses better ground to run on, as the course dries out.

Hope you get the flight sorted! Had a similar problem last year – booked a flight to Dortmund, then the meeting got cancelled! Ended up losing £35 on the flghts. I nearly booked a flight to Italy to watch one of Christians run in a big steeplechase there in a couple of weeks – just about to book the flight, and he tells me it’s not running! Saved me a few quid that did!
I guess that’s the price to pay when you live in one country and have a horse in another! Anyway, let’s hope that Der Spieler make the journey worthwhile – whenever I travel over to Germany, my horses always seem to finish 8th rather bizarrely! I’m sure he’ll do better than that!

Post of the year so far.
September 13, 2009 at 00:19 #248541Thanks Darren,
yes I got my flight changed..flying out tomorrow morning. I mean, if one gets the chance to go to Listowel, then I want to enjoy the whole day and have a drink with my brother and sister…
September 14, 2009 at 19:10 #248841Aah Beverley, you didn’t let us down.
I thought, owner travelling from Germany to watch the horse run – it is an EW certainty.
Now to try to watch the race. Firefox crashed on me twice and Internet Explorer once. If it happens again, I’ll do a system restore to another day.
I can imagne you drinking a Baileys and ice right at this moment.

That’s no guarantee – I regulalrly make the 1800 mile round trip, and usually see my horses finish 8th!!!
I didn’t see the race as I was stuck in the office, but apparently,he was leading until the final flight and stayed on for third – a really decent race so well done Beverley – but it’s the form we all knew he was capable of!

September 15, 2009 at 11:52 #248931Thanks Darren and Gerald,,,
it was a fantastic day, the sun shone down on us (21 degrees) and he absolutely pinged every hurdle. He had a bit of weight on him after the rest, which is good because he tended to be too lean before. I’m sure he’ll come on for this and we are delighted. just going off to see him now..
