April 6, 2008 at 15:55 #156464Yeah read it in todays paper, he reckons the gamble he sparked on Cockney Rebel was the Biggest Gamble in the history of the guineas.
Personally I think Haafhd cost the Bookies a lot of money in 2004, he was gambled in from 33s before his craven win and then backed heavily again on the day against One Cool Cat. Cockney Rebel won at about 25s or 33s so wouldnt think there would have been the same sort of money on him.
April 6, 2008 at 16:06 #156469It’s the kind of quote that is hard to prove (or dis-prove) given the hidden nature of accounts with bookies.
Also, gambles in the past may well have won more if you take into account cumulative inflation.
April 6, 2008 at 16:13 #156470I backed Cockney Rebel that day because on the morning line i saw this trainer saying if his horse was out of the first 3 he would retire training.
Needless to say I had an each way bet on the horse.
He reckons he has 3 major gambles this month but i cant find anything about it. is there a number or an address or anything??
Hope he werent the one behind that washington irvine horse today lol
April 6, 2008 at 16:32 #156473Is this the same Geoff Huffer that is a convicted fraudster?
April 6, 2008 at 16:37 #156474I knew it was too good to be true

i think im going to stick with stoute this year instead..
April 6, 2008 at 16:37 #156475Yes the same man that spent 5 months in jail for not paying his taxes, same as Lester Piggott.
April 6, 2008 at 17:39 #156491Mr Huffer went to prison as the result of a V.A.T. fraud when he owned a transport company.
Before he went to prison he was known as quite astute.
I think it fair to say that it was a well known gambling yard. He had a horse called Coppergirl that hacked up in a Yarmouth seller backed in from 12s into 5/s.
The next time the horse was due to run it had to be withdrawn as it was ‘rumoured’ to have been given some incorrect medicine.
There was a dope test and a fine.He has a massive gamble on another one of his horses Sonny Parkin on one the Friday night Newmarket meetings. Frankie Dettori was entrusted to get the job done.
