I hoped it was okay but broke down on Cheltenham today. Sadly… this 13yo cross country specialist is gone <!– s:cry: –>

<!– s:cry: –>March 13, 2012 at 16:42 #396259I had been following the first day today from my office PC with so much excitement and was really looking forward to going home and watching it all. There didn’t seem to be any PU’s or F’s and now this…
It has left me in shock. I cannot believe it.
RIP Garde Champetre & Scotsirish.
March 13, 2012 at 16:49 #396261What a sad outcome for one of the cross country specialists. RIP.
March 13, 2012 at 16:52 #396265Terrible news

I was just watching Garde Champetre’s successes last night and thought he had a good chance of doing it again. He was electric over those hedges and a speedy hurdler in his youth. It has been brilliant to see him enjoying success as an older horse. What a fabulous career he had – it’s awful to see it end this way.
Losing Garde Champetre and Scotsirish spoils the whole day.
March 13, 2012 at 16:58 #396272So so sad for the old warrior … you deserved to live in a luxury retirement in the near future … RIP brave boy.
March 13, 2012 at 17:33 #396287What a horrible day for Cheltenham after so many races with no injuries. Condolences to connections of Garde Champetre and Scotsirish, a sad and horrible end for two brilliant old boys.
A New Story’s people must be wanting to wrap him in cotton wool after today but would he be happy? Such a tough decision to make.Came home last night from 2 weeks holiday, and really shocked to see how many we have lost in that time. Particularly sad about Rougham, Drybrook Bedouin, Bygones of Brid, and Storyteller. RIP all of them, but very cut up about today’s two.
March 13, 2012 at 18:31 #396313Awful news.
A very good horse and such a talent within the Cross Country division.
RIP Garde Champetre.
March 13, 2012 at 20:41 #396361I can’t believe we’ve lost two such great horses in that one race, Garde Champetre a legend. Prior to that, I don’t think there had been any fallers all afternoon. So sad. YOu can’t enjoy the win when something like that happens.
RIP to a great horse, and condolences to connections.March 13, 2012 at 21:47 #396379I just glanced away as Scotsirish went down
and then Nina Carberry had to pull Garde Champetre up injured, was hoping he would be ok.
The day was going like a dream up to the 4.00 and then we lost 3 brave horses, it’s absolutely heartbreaking for all concerned
Nina Carberry and connections must be devasted to lose this grand old warrior.
RIP..Garde Champetre you leave a wonderful legacy of past wins behind you..so sad we will never see you again
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...March 13, 2012 at 23:38 #396457I just wanted to pay tribute to a horse that has given me so much personal enjoyment over the years and am devestated that we have lost him.
Thanks for the good times Garde, you will be sorely missed.
RIP Garde, Scotsirish & Educated Evans.
