Thanks Drone….much appreciated re Gardasee. I asked Kahlil about his name and he informed me that after reading "The Prophet" his mother named him after the author, Kahlil Gibran.
Trust that clarifies your "blood" query
January 27, 2008 at 19:19 #138214Congratulations Naps, another terrific, gutsy run! you’ve got to be thrilled with that. Espcially at 25-1, I hope you had a few quid on!
January 27, 2008 at 21:07 #138257I’m bemused that more UK trainers don’t go over to try and plunder decent prizes in Ireland as I think some of the races are pretty weak so fair play to connections of Gardasee.
January 27, 2008 at 21:31 #138268Thanks BH and GD. More than thrilled and more that a few quid on! Big run was expected since he had come on so much for his last run (17kgs lighter). We had the option of going to Newbury in what looked like a much tougher race (Big Buck’s) where he wouldn’t have got an uncontested lead for a 10k pot or go to Ireland for a 100k pot and weaker race…..made sense to bypass Newbury. In addition, we needed a run that would bring his rating up enough to get into the Jewson at the festival, so hopefully that did the trick. Can’t praise my young trainer Kahlil Burke enough.
For those that pm’d me about Lemon Silk, he is still mine after buying him back in for 90k.
Cheers.
January 27, 2008 at 21:48 #138278Good result naps – well done.
I couldn’t believe the price this afternoon – very generous these Irish bookies!!
January 28, 2008 at 05:57 #138338I think you and your trainer deserve a medal just for going to Ireland.
When I saw him entered my immediate reaction was to think why don’t more trainers cross the water and go after these prizes. The Irish must send 20 times as many horses over here that we send to Ireland.
I realize prize money is better in England but some of the would be good race in Ireland and won by pretty moderate horses. Yesterdays race unfortunately was not one of those occasions, I thought the winner looked a very nice horse
and looked to me like he could be an ideal Cheltenham type.Once again your fellow showed how tough a horse he is and he must be a pleasure to own. Great piece of judgment sending him over, well done.

I don’t believe that is the case any more, Fists.

January 28, 2008 at 08:54 #138352Well done with him Naps – I wonder how many owners with a string of two (or are there more?) are going to be running both of them at Cheltenham.
Add in my ‘virtual’ ownership of Sizing Europe and all the horses that David Johnson will be running and TRF will be having quite a week !

January 28, 2008 at 09:57 #138361Fist get a grip.
Prize money in UK is dreadful. Have a look at the AW prize money on offer at Dundalk and compare it to the UK tracks. Same goes for turf racing.January 28, 2008 at 10:56 #138370Opps sorry mate I was being presumptive I can’t say I look at prize money much these days except for when reading form…mind you only yesterday I noticed The Grey Berry was 1,500 quid to the winner and must admit that’s shocking low.
Makes me wonder even more why they don’t send more raiders across the sea for a bit of Plunder.
At least Mr. Burke had the balls to do it and good on him

Thanks AP…..something to really look forward to. The string is at 4 currently, the latest recruit being the 4yo Regional Counsel. Was a high class 2yo in Ireland winning a Gp3 and not finishing too far behind Teofilo.Lost his way as a 3yo but with the change of scenery has been working and also has schooled extremely well. Needs good ground so is a possible for the Triumph if he gets some experience under his belt, otherwise he will go for Aintree. Will be v ery nice to have 3 at the festival who are no forlorn hopes.
February 7, 2008 at 19:01 #141001your man must be nuts a novice in a race like that..
April 7, 2008 at 09:12 #156611Naps, how is Gardasee?
I hope he isn’t too seriously injured!

April 7, 2008 at 10:21 #156630Phew.
I was punditing on the race and neither me nor the host could work out from the RUK pictures exactly what happened. All we saw was him jumping the first in the back straight a little deliberately and then pulling off course about 15 strides after – not obviously stricken to our semi-trained eyes, but experience always encourages one not to be either wildly optimistic or pessimistic in any such instance.
Delighted to hear he’ll be back – he’s done all concerned proud this winter.
