Where your going wrong Ben, the claims are included in the final weight, your substracting them again. Anyway lets not get too bogged down
July 10, 2007 at 16:20 #107141ah, thank you for that, much appreciated, still fairly new to all this. only really my 3rd full season following racing seriously you live and learn.
January 8, 2008 at 15:14 #6197Great win for Gardasee at Sedgefield this afternoon.
Naps, one of the members on here, is "involved" with this horse but he denies it was his money that made Gardasee’s price halve. <!– s:roll: –><!– s:roll: –> <!– s:roll: –><!– s:roll: –> <!– s:roll: –><!– s:roll: –> <!– s:wink: –><!– s:wink: –> <!– s8) –><!– s8) –>

Good grief – is that kind of thing even legal in this country?
January 8, 2008 at 16:28 #134088Hmmmm, thanks, I think, Colin! My involvement comes from paying his bills….nothing any more sinister
January 8, 2008 at 16:48 #134091No, seriously, congratulations naps! Kahlil Burke is continuing to impress with a smallish string…
January 8, 2008 at 17:23 #134100He certainly is, NV.
Not bad for a man whose formative years were spent at the Ted Caine School of Hard Knocks and Lovable Fatties (see also that other emerging young handler Kevin M Prendergast, and some bloke called Jim Crowley).

January 8, 2008 at 19:43 #134121I’ve seen a few who’ve come from the Ted Caine school of naming horses:
Cloigeannn Rua or whatever her name was
January 8, 2008 at 20:02 #134127It was a very gutsy run, terrific Naps congratulatiuons! (sorry I’m drunk forgoive typos)
January 8, 2008 at 21:08 #134142Thanks BH…..don’t let the typos interfere with the drinking

One tends to forget the period he spent with Aiden O’Brien. In my opinion this is where Kahlil learnt the major part of his trade. His attention to detail has to be seen to be believed and I hope that with success, a better grade of animal comes his way. Having been with numerous "bigger" trainers in the past where info about your horses is scarce or merely the standard "he worked well today" , it is refreshing to be able to talk to Kahlil anywhere from 3-5 times a day, getting fully informed about every aspect of your horses’ progress….good or bad.
Over the past few years I had begun to lose interest as an owner, but I can honestly say that moving to Kahlil has brought all the old enthusiasm back, helped of course by his transformation of Lemon Silk who was destined for the scrap heap before Kahlil took him apart then put him back together.
After Gardasee today, racing has become fun again!
January 8, 2008 at 22:30 #134153Naps, that is a lovely compliment to pay to someone.
I think Mr. Burke should get to see it.
I will endeavour to see that he does.
Colin
January 9, 2008 at 09:49 #134207Hear hear, Colin. Sarah’s Quay, Gardasee, Mange Tout, Fisby, and of course Lemon Silk have all done Kahlil proud so far, and likewise he them.
Martin – Cloigeann Rua was an Irish pointer Ted acquired, rather than one of his numerous homebreds. Nobody at High Crossett Farm could pronounce her name properly, so they usually just called her Red or Cloggy Rua. Ted’s assistant Geoff and I just used to refer to her as Fridge, as even fully race-fit she was still roughly the same shape as one. I’m pretty sure she’s been covered in the last few years and has popped out a few baby Fridges for Ted…

January 9, 2008 at 10:53 #134216Great news to here a member having a winner. Made all as well….real hard track to do that at………seen so many horses take it up two out there and finish out the first three…must be one tough cookie..congrats!!! hope he continues his winning ways.
Always wondered where the trainer sprang from…..certainly learned his trade well and from the right man too.
January 9, 2008 at 11:11 #134219Thanks Fist…….needs to sort out his jumping out to the right. Here’s the link for the race if you want to see it.

January 9, 2008 at 19:53 #134320Was never going to get beat was he? The two challengers came at exactly the right time and too many times at Sedgfield horses who come then go on and win…..he’s actually won going away in the and…..Re his jumping…..if they have something niggling them they tend to jump away from it but in alot of cases it’s just the way they are…..worked for them when they started schooling and they just get into the habit……sort of built in false sense of security………no doubt your trainer will work on sorting it out and he’ll be even better, as he must have cost himself several lengths..thanks for the link very enjoyable race……when I watched it I only wanted evens but the girlfriend told me to FO
January 10, 2008 at 09:09 #134386The name Kahlil is intriguing. Has he got some Arabic blood in him?
Very well done with Gardasee and Lemon Silk naps.
Still think ‘Silken Citrine’ would have been a better name though, of those suggested by TRFers
