Climb a mountain or jump in a lake.
Some head off to exotic places,
Others go to the Galway Races.© Christy

My main problem with Galway is actually the lack of a fence in the home straight.
Obviously the two downhill fences are quite unique and add to the excitement but surely a case for there to be a fence in the straight???
July 29, 2010 at 13:24 #309660With the link between Galway & Clare noted in the last few posts, there is a topical bet (if you’re quick) in the 2:25 with Tribes And Banner running at Galway.

Performed about as well as the Clare hurlers & Galway footballers this year!

Try tell Donald McCain,Graham Lee and the team that the Galway festival isn’t special…..
I thought we don’t get many British raiders????
Tears in the stable lads eyes tell you all you need to know about what this festival means to those racing "purists"…. I doubt very much you will see tears of joy at Goodwood this week.
Great to see McCain get some Galway/Irish success..
July 29, 2010 at 16:20 #309706It just goes to prove my point Joncol. The one truly talented horse at Galway all week and he hacks up easily. I doubt McCain can believe his luck. All he had to do was keep a reasonably talented horse that likes good ground in training through the summer. Bring him over the water and then lead the other ponies around the track for a 120K.
There wasn’t a horse near his talent in the field for a 120K race! What does that say about Galway!
Not that I’m complaining about that though I got stuck into this horse early doors at 11/2 and now have the bonus of collecting at 6/1!
July 29, 2010 at 16:27 #309708Exceptional ride from Graham Lee, led from the start, gave him a breather then kicked when the fav drew level, had a nice bet at 13/2 delighted, always looked the class horse of the field.
Infact I’ve got so excited I’ve just purchased RUK for the month, so I can have a look at Epsom and Musselburgh tonight (nothing on ATR).

You’ve got to have RUK! I much prefer their coverage. Nick Mills is the best presenter and racing is lucky to have him.
Jim Crowley to win the 8.10 @ Epsom!

July 29, 2010 at 17:07 #309723Sorry, haven’t read through all this thread so probably missed something, but who is Nick Mills
And Matthew, the only good thing abut RUK is they show endless repeats of the day’s racing. So it’s great if you have a bet in the morning and then go out on the lash all day like me. There’s nothing like shouting the winner of the 2:10 home at midnight
Only joking, I’m in by 11 really

On Daytime Dreamer in the first at Burgh.

Hi did look obvious, especially with Luska Lad absent. Looks a Champion Hurdle contender, BTW he won’t be the only talented horse on show this week, The 2010 Ebor winner runs tomorrow.

Jeez I never knew it was that simple.
Why dont you buy yourself a "reasonably talented horse" and keep it "in training through the summer. Bring him over the water and then lead the other ponies around the track for a 120K."
If it was that easy why don’t you get involved. Do you not want 120k?? If its that easy…

4.5 Million bet on track today and just under 45,000 at the track today. More importantly lots and lots of young people
Obviously Galway is a bad idea
