Well lads its galway time again…weights and ante-post lists out for the plate and hurdle today. What are people’s thoughts on these two big hcaps? Ballyagran looks to have a nice mark in the plate and dermot weld seems to be lining up majestic concorde for a tilt at the hurdle.
July 15, 2008 at 22:14 #173396Pity you lumped both races in together- could you maybe change this one to the Plate and start another for the Hurdle?
I like Tony Martin’s Green Mile in the Plate and reckon Laddies 12/1 NRNB if you bet in an Irish shop won’t be seen on the day. He’s desperate to go right-handed so his form is better than it looks. He’s having a spin over hurdles tomorrow in Killarney before the big one.July 16, 2008 at 18:55 #173462Green Mile won well tonight- should tee him up perfectly for Galway.
July 16, 2008 at 22:11 #173474Majestic concorde won well at killarney the other night too..what price the e/w double carvills?
July 16, 2008 at 23:00 #173477Bit early for me on the Hurdle- don’t know how much the weights will go up, he may end up with too much weight.
July 17, 2008 at 10:49 #173507Paul Nolan normally does well here so will have a look at that french horse An Accordin (spelling might be wrong) that done well at start of last season winning 4 in a row….
July 23, 2008 at 18:43 #174462I’ve taken upwards of 50/1 about Absolute Image in the Hurdle. No idea if this one will run or not, but there are a couple of reasons for selecting him.
Firstly, trainer DK Weld has a good record at the meeting. Secondly, he is totally unexposed over hurdles, winning comfortably on the second of two starts, and finishing only 6L behind Captain Cee Bee in receipt of 5lbs, in his maiden hurdle. The Post suggests his current BHB rating is 115, so if his Irish mark is anything close to this, he could be close to thrown-in.
With Accordion Etoile already an NR, all it needs is for Kalderon (disappointed last week) to come out, and this one will be comfortably in the handicap. Even from his current mark of 8lbs out of the handicap, he might be good enough.
All it needs is for him to get a run, and it could be happy days.

Convincing argument Grassy. Is he gonna get in though? Needs plenty to come out. Currently 38’s on betfair.
July 23, 2008 at 19:30 #174471Aye, that’s the danger, Aragorn – might not get into the race. I’ve rationalised that this is marginally offset by the price I’ve taken, and I’ve kept stakes low as a result.
July 23, 2008 at 19:55 #174476I’d be inclined to think with them having Majestic Concorde for the Hurdle he might go for the valuable flat handicap on Tuesday night in which he was just chinned again last year (off 92) or a ‘winners of one’ hurdle but he will be interesting wherever he runs. His hurdling was really slick the day he won at Clonmel.
July 23, 2008 at 23:19 #174530Colin you mentioned the Tuesday night. Did not realise that the Monday & Tuesday were evening meetings.

By coincidence I am in Galway next Monday and Limerick Tuesday & Wednesday on business. Guess that sorts out what to do in the evenings.
Outstanding!
July 27, 2008 at 23:24 #175079Rounded out my ante-post portfolio on the 2 big races today with Ladbrokes, NRNB:
In the Plate I’ve backed Green Mile at 12/1, Oslot at 9/1 and Brave Right at 25/1. (first 2 a while ago)
In the Hurdle I like Cloone Rocket (16/1 NRNB, 20/1 all in) and Indian Pace at 20/1.
Paddy Power look to have taken a chance to me putting in Arc Bleu at 12/1 for the GPT tonight, for all that a drop of rain would help- these hustly-bustly races suit him well and he’s only 5lbs higher than at Newcastle.July 29, 2008 at 22:45 #175263Any thoughts on the galway plate tomorrow lads…i like the look of cool running
July 30, 2008 at 08:37 #175279The more I look at the race, the more I think Oslot is stuck-on.
July 30, 2008 at 09:16 #175286Oslot should run all over this lot. Expect it to win by a good 5L+. WIth Santa’s Son picking up the place.

Personally Grassy, I think Ruby would rather be on Irish Invader, if he could do anything near the weight.

Then again, maybe not.
