Like an early go in this, but very, very hard to call right now….

The one I like straight off the bat is Darasso, who ran really well in it last year, and will come here (like many), race fit, and a couple of pounds lower. I’d definitely bet him Antepost, if not for his entry in The Hurdle, as he’s just too big at 25’s. That looks a mad price.

Not surprisingly, he’s one of a huge entry for JP, and of the rest, previous winner Early Doors, would have a big shout on his Fairyhouse run, while The Shunter looks a big player too. At bigger prices, hard to put a line through Unexcepted or Birchdale either. At a huge price is Aramax, and I’d certainly cover him, he’s the type who looks laid out for next week, but he might struggle to get in. Maybe one for The Galway Blazer.

Willie Mullins will obviously have a big say, but struggling to split his at the moment. The one who’s bugging me a little is Annamix. He was desperate in this last year, but if he lines up, I find it hard to believe that Mullins won’t have taken a different approach this year, and he could surprise.

Gordon Elliott is another with a huge entry, including the very interesting Ash Tree Meadow, but there’s a horse of his, Coach Carter, who I really like. Probably not the most straightforward, and yet to prove he’s up to this level, but he’s one I’ll be interested in wherever he lines up next week. Looks unlikely to get in though.

Hardline is another who might have a struggle to get in for Elliot, but his fellow Gigginstown inmate, Battleoverdoyen will have no such concerns. Yes, not the force of old, but he’s just the type that can bounce back here. Won at the meeting last year, after finishing midfield in this, and he’ll come here seven pounds lower. Thought he was too big at 50’s, with that run at Kilbeggan under his belt, and happy to have him early. If the price holds, which would surprise me, I’d go in again EW with max places. I put him up as one to follow last year, and decided that the time is right to start backing him.

Could change my mind every five minutes here, and hopefully the likes of Batcio, and Born By The Sea don’t get in, as that would just complicate things further for me.

Darasso the main Hope just now, but no money down. Battleoverdoyen the early pick, and I’ll definitely wait for main bet until Final Decs

Darasso runs here, so took the 33’s, but yet to add him EW, but I will if I don’t add a third, which I can’t rule out right now.

The Shunter must have a great chance here, and I’ve bet him a few times, while El Barra and Fire Attack appeal. Leaning towards Annamix though, who can’t possibly be as bad as he was last year.

Happy to see Davy Russell on Battleoverdoyen, so topped him up to seven places.

Stick with this pair for now, but tempted by Annamix

I’ve having two bets. The Jam Man who has been in and out of form over hurdles + the flat…but when hes run well the ability is very much there. No chase run since winning the Troytown by 18ls. Arguably too high in the handicap and not exactly startling form recently….but first time blinkers and a trainer that can land one.

The other is Darasso- Form of his life this year over hurdles. 5th in this last year. 1/2 length behind The Shunter and now 2lb better off.

Looks a better race this year to my eye but big prices.

Going a bit OTT with 4 but here goes

    Win

Gabynako , he might prefer a bit more cut he,s a class act as his 2 nd in the Arkle shows , plenty weight but he,s a graded horse

    E.w

Battleoverdoyen , for know Ryhme or reason my fav horse in training , used this as a prep for a later race at last year’s festival , he,s well weighted and while the last 2 form figures don’t inspire he travelled well for a long way last time and is carrying less weight than last year

Annamix , very in and out but on a in day he,s nicely priced for a place

Discortantly , right at the bottom of handicap , a bit like Jacks The Jam Man and Annamix , in and out and not the world’s greatest jumper but could get involved on a going day

    Good luck all

Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
