Thanks Green.
Glad the horse handled the ground he didn’t like well enough. Still learning on the job pricking his ears. What he can achieve next year when he’s matured some more looks promising
October 22, 2022 at 15:50 #1619587Thanks ham
October 22, 2022 at 16:30 #1619593Well done Mike
Aidan strikes again
Best horse won but why Tudhope drawn next to him decided to not stick with the better half of the field was a tad strangeBlackbeard to conquer the World
October 22, 2022 at 16:42 #1619598Id say he handled that ground well enough mike i wouldnt be too concerned about the possibillity
Of that in the derby! Hes a cracking type, he wont be winning the guineas, but hes a derby type through & throughOctober 22, 2022 at 18:37 #1619616AOB seemed more animated talking about this horse than I’ve seen him for a while. I think the first 3 are good horses so the winner is probably very good. I have no idea where he’ll be targeted next year though. 3-1 for the Derby? 5-1 for 2,000 Guineas? Madness. I wouldn’t take those prices about him even running in those races.
October 22, 2022 at 18:48 #1619618I never listen to O’Brien – it’s the same rhetoric every year and it’s just marketing flannel for the bloodstock operation that employs him – but if I wasn’t convinced by Auguste Rodin at Leopardstown I was here.
A straight mile on Heavy ground may have little bearing on a 1m4f race on Epsom Downs next June, but you rarely get fast ground at The Derby any more (not now we’re in the Cooper era) and given Auguste Rodin was almost withdrawn today it’s a safe bet he will be even better on quicker ground.
Auguste Rodin looks a middle distance colt through and through to me and I hope they don’t run him in the 2,000 Guineas.
But as I keep saying, 1m-1m2f is the name of the game commercially nowadays and if you win The Derby you need to do it again back at 1m2f to maximise your Stallion value, unless you won a Guineas en route.
This outfit needs to be winning the 2,000 Guineas regularly and, if Little Big Bear isn’t pleasing them next spring, Auguste Rodin could be be reappearing in the 2,000 Guineas as opposed to the Ballysax Stakes.
Finally, he’s 4/1 for The Derby with Bet365 – it’s very short, but I wouldn’t fancy laying 9/2 because on my ratings he’s the joint-best 2yo to have run over a mile in Europe this year.

October 23, 2022 at 20:28 #1619814I guess the hype machine has been dusted off and is in full working order after this:
Asked about Auguste Rodin 24 hours after his Vertem win, O’Brien said: “The horse yesterday is probably the most exciting we’ve ever had, to do what he’s been doing.”
October 23, 2022 at 20:30 #1619816Pffft. Not even the best two year old in the yard.

How many times have we heard this?
Anyone taking any notice must have amnesia.

October 23, 2022 at 21:57 #1619849Ignoring the hype he is a hugely exciting horse. Hopefully doesnt go to the guineas and trial then derby then eclipse. Doubt it but hope so.

Not sure where you got this quote from. In his interview with Gary O Brien he said…
“He’s probably the most exciting horse we’ve had at the moment because it’s all about next year with him.”
Which is fair enough as being by Deep Impact out of Rhododendron, a Galileo mare he has the scope to do big things next year.October 24, 2022 at 08:46 #1619894Everything suggests he will be better on decent ground and 10 to 12f. Im sure aiden is on autopilot given hes probably the most interviewed trainer there has ever been. He did seem genuinely excited about the horse. Considering he has little big bear and blackbeard for next season and his lovely action he must be really shining on the gallops. Ryan certainly thinks there is loads more to come as well. I can see him being another high chapparal.

He says “best I’ve ever had” ANNUALLY.
