“Folk calling Frost “a grass” ffs. Absolutely appalling.”
Agree TTC. While I accept the well made points about innocent until proven guilty and the right to a fair hearing, to label someone who sounded concerned about her personal safety a “grass” is insensitive in the extreme.
October 19, 2021 at 13:02 #1563967If looking carefully at what Peter said TTC / CAS…
He said Bryony “looks like a grass“, not that she is.
Just as he said Robbie “looks like a bully“, not that he is.Some people are going to think one, some the other, some both and some none. That’s what comes of trial by social media. That’s what I believe the point of Peter’s words are.
It is not until we see the whole report that we can make rightful judgement.
Value Is EverythingOctober 19, 2021 at 13:11 #1563969Thank you, Ginger. You are correct.
Bryony Frost being labelled a grass isn’t my sentiments, however that will be the perception of many of her peers if there is this apparent, archaic rule of “these things aren’t done”. Between that and the casual reader who doesn’t know the full story or has some agenda against Miss Frost; she is going to be the subject of a negative label. Hence my previous post.
Again, it’s worth stressing these aren’t my sentiments. Until I know the facts and full story; I’m completely neutral on this matter.
October 19, 2021 at 13:17 #1563970At a time when we are encouraging whistleblowers and victims of any sort of abuse to come forward and report issues no one should be labelled a grass.
There are those who dislike Frost because she is so enthusiastic and forthcoming in interviews. No doubt they are the same people who moan about Ryan Moore. I have no interest in their views.
October 19, 2021 at 13:22 #1563971Yes, fair point Ginger and apologies to Peter H.
I agree Dunne is entitled to the presumption of innocence, as is everyone at the outset of legal or disciplinary proceedings. I have been on enough disciplinary panels in work to know that is important! However, if Dunne is found to have harassed and bullied Frost but the weighing room still sees Frost as a grass, then racing has a big problem.
I recognise that racing, especially jumps, is a tough game and not for the faint hearted. It is dangerous and sometimes tempers will flare up. That is all OK as long as it is dealt with promptly and everyone calms down.
But what is alleged to have gone on here is of a different order of magnitude. Let us hope there is a resolution soon and everything can move on for the better.
October 19, 2021 at 13:51 #1563978Yes, I agree with all your post CAS,
If this type of thing has gone on in the weighing room I am really frustrated other jockeys have seemingly not spoken out at the time these alleged incidents happened.Although it may be society’s problem rather than just the weighing room. Jockeys keeping silent because of not wanting to get involved?
Value Is EverythingOctober 19, 2021 at 17:02 #1563989Racing desperate to get on the front pages painting a rosy picture. Don’t be surprised to see this buried with bribes. Frost to take position on BHA, and Dunne, god only knows where your off to mate. We’ll no doubt see ITV Racing doing a few pieces regarding the fellowship of the weighing room.
October 19, 2021 at 17:45 #1563990Thanks Illavim. I didn’t realise Dunne was so much older than Frost. That makes his behaviour even worse in my opinion (if the allegations are found true obviously).
October 19, 2021 at 20:03 #1564000Whether we personally warm to Bryony or not, or why, isn’t relevant. Every one of us has all sorts of unfounded and irrational prejudices about public figures and it comes with the job. My grandmother hated Arthur Askey. We never knew why. I doubt she did.
However, abuse (and, in this case, alleged sexual abuse) and bullying should never be acceptable, regardless of “weighing room banter”. Frost is now a high profile figure (which of course doesn’t mean she isn’t affected but at least she will have some support). I wonder how many youngsters just starting out are suffering the same and keeping silent for fear of destroying their careers.
October 19, 2021 at 21:05 #1564004Brilliant post Tonge.
October 21, 2021 at 09:38 #1564088Yes which conveniently links us up with another case of a trainer being warned off a few weeks back………..
October 21, 2021 at 10:37 #1564089Much as I love the sport, one feels it is rather insular, especially the jumps. Anything that can drag it further into the 21st century, is to be welcomed – and it has made strides in other areas.
October 21, 2021 at 15:29 #1564112The Times reports today that a second female jockey has lodged a complaint with the BHA after an incident involving a male jockey.
It is understood the the complaint concerns what is viewed as a safeguarding issue relating to the behaviour of a male rider towards a female jockey. The alleged incident further highlights the need for a review of the culture and working conditions for female jockeys in the sport.
The sensitivities around the second case mean the jockey cannot be named while the evidence is under the consideration of the compliance department at the BHA.
October 21, 2021 at 15:41 #1564114Purely speculative but did this go away as quietly as it seemed at the time ?

This could turn into racing’s equivalent of #metoo. It seems we haven’t come very far since Gay Kelleway’s complaints about her treatment 30 years ago. Remind yourself of what she alleged here:

October 21, 2021 at 17:14 #1564124Watching the video of that Newbury race Fuller’s horse heads Williams’ just before the fifth last. Fuller holds her horse straight when he’s trying to lug left and leaves the door wide open for Williams till just after the 4th last, when she has forged a bit further ahead on a horse who’s travelling better. She closes the door but there is no contact between horses and if Williams had enough horse he could have switched outside and carried on albeit outside round the bend. His horse is cooked soon thereafter though, goes backwards through the field and coasts home. The stewards didn’t see anything wrong with the Fuller’s ride and the commentator doesn’t remark on Confirmation Bias being tight for room.
October 21, 2021 at 17:31 #1564126Williams didn’t seem in a mad rush on the run in here to pull his stick through and give his horse a whap on the left side till his rival had been conveniently beaten. Not dangerous, didn’t deny the 2nd horse victory, young Luca Morgan (5) didn’t give Williams a piece of his mind after I don’t think.
