I’m sure the BHA have the situation under control.

    Said no one ever.

Not good news. More horrendous headlines for racing. Seems his legal team can’t understand that his behaviour is totally unacceptable today saying the panel had little experience of racing, translated as they don’t understand weighing room culture. Doh. Unbelievable. Can the increase the ban. Hopefully to the full 3 years. Dunne is being very badly advised here IMHO.

    From ‘The Times’ today:

“The panel had stated, ‘In this case we were not troubled by any borderline decision on either guilt or sanction. The threshold in rule (J)19 (conduct prejudicial to horse racing) was plainly crossed and this case overwhelmingly called for a penalty of some potency.”

I don’t see how an appeal could succeed in light of the above.

Yeah his new lawyer said that. Is new lawyer an expert in harassment or bullying in the workplace perchance? Nope. He specialises in… tax law.

    What does “double green” mean?

It’s a reference to the colours of Simon Munir and Isaac Souede, commonly used by the racing media.

“Irrelevant but the title of the thread made me think of this. There is a bit of naughty language at the end, just in case you do not like that kind of thing.”

Bit of a bad run for the Robinsons. No wonder the Captain has been absent for a while.

I see, thank you, I lead such a sheltered life that I have never heard tell of either of those gentlemen.
I really must make the attempt to climb the social ladder!

Is it just me or is racing still in denial over the case. Lee mottershead again saying dunnes team think independent panel don’t understand weighing room culture and had little knowledge of racing. It’s not about racing it’s about unacceptable behaviour that wouldn’t be tolerated elsewhere. Fine arguing the length of the sentence but what planet are dunne and his team on. Regrettably predictable that racing would close ranks. Quite depressing actually.

“Lee mottershead again saying dunnes team think independent panel don’t understand weighing room culture”

“Understand weighing room culture” is not the issue but, but as you say, taking a view as to whether conduct as described is acceptable in any context in this day and age.

Much like Yorkshire County cricket, really. Very unlikely what happened there was unique to that County, and maybe twenty years ago similar “banter” would have been more or less the norm.

And not dissimilar to the anti-semitic elements within the Labour Party and the anti-Muslim ones in the Conservatives.

Should Dunne’s team be successful it will be damaging to the image of racing.

Dunne’s sentence has been reduced after his appeal to 10 months.

    Shameful.

The “mitigating actions” being used to justify the reduction e.g. Dunne was willing to participate in a “banging together of heads” session, are pathetic. He has never shown the first glimpse of being truly sorry.

I wouldn’t get too animated over this – it’s not like he’s been acquitted.

It’s basically just a bit of clemency based on giving more weight to the efforts to broker a reconciliation and the fact he’s in the twilight of his career.

I agree the change in punishment will make limited difference to Dunne.

It’s more the wider message that the reduction sends that troubles me, especially where the panel still found his conduct “reprehensible”.

It feels like a step backwards, not that things had really moved forward very much anyway!
