I see that Johnny Murtagh is riding Gagnoa for Andre Fabre today.
Will the riding instructions be to box in Zarkova………..
June 8, 2008 at 08:08 #167323I think Murtagh is on the wrong horse, for the third time this weekend.
I’ll be cheering Zarkava on, but think both Kitty Matcham and Proviso may give her some competition.
June 8, 2008 at 15:39 #167386Another very impressive display from Zarkava.

June 8, 2008 at 23:52 #167451Haha – I liked the comment made in response to the YouTube replay: "Soumillon was taking the piss".
I’m worried if Zarkava will give any more when Soumillon actually scrubs her up for real. I hope she doesn’t get into a pattern of being nurtured and digging her heals when asked for more!
June 9, 2008 at 00:11 #167452Zarkava is clearly in a class of her own amongst the three year old fillies. I think she’ll easily stay twelve furlongs but I do think she’ll come up short when she takes on either Peeping Fawn or the best of the colts.
June 9, 2008 at 07:24 #167464Is it me or is this the most exciting flat season in a few years?

June 9, 2008 at 10:25 #167486This filly is going to take all the beating over 8-10f. Can’t see her getting 12f though. Hopefully they will drop her back in trip. Henry will have his hands full against her imho. Hopefully we’ll see that race happen in the QEII although its probably unlikely….

totaly agree with you John im a jumps fan and every summer just have a few bets on the flat but this year i have been keeping an eye on the flat with great intrest and looking forward to the rest of the season
June 9, 2008 at 10:31 #167491agree that this is an amazing flat season; even my daughter who isn’t at all interested in racing was talking about the Derby yesterday, and she didn’t even know about all the background politics to the race.
June 9, 2008 at 10:57 #167499Just literally been saying the same.
I am a jumps fan more than a flat fan, but i am getting really into the flat season this season. With the calibre of talent at the moment too, who couldn’t get involved in it.

We all see things differently. Zarkava gave me the strong impression yesterday that she would not only stay 12f but would in fact be suited by a step up to that distance.
June 9, 2008 at 17:37 #167594Surely now is the time for her to be taken out of her comfort zone. I cannot get excited watching her beat the same fillies the same way race after race.

Ever the cynic!! There was no time before now when they could have done anything else really. It says everything that Natagora went for the french derby and english guineas imo
Gus, her pedigree doesn’t really scream middle distance. Given a searching pace and 12f I think she will struggle against the best of the boys. She’d have a better chance over 8-10f but thats just my opinion.
June 10, 2008 at 07:34 #167656I’m familiar with her pedigree, Aragorn, but she was going on strongly at the finish on Sunday and I just think she’s going to stay. As you say, it’s opinion only and we won’t know for sure until she tries 12f. It sounds like that won’t be until the Arc itself.
June 10, 2008 at 08:26 #167659Don’t get me wrong Aragorn, it’s only because she is in such a different league to her rivals that there has been an air of inevitability about her last 2 runs. I’d just like to see her now aimed at something like the Nassau, where hopefully we can test her formlines against the 3-y-o fillies from UK and Ireland with the odd 4-y-o like Peeping Fawn (with a bit of luck) thrown in for good measure.
June 10, 2008 at 09:03 #167666They were targeting the Coronation Stakes as the British debut for Zarkava at one stage. On the flipside, she was a not-nominated favourite for the Oaks back in February/March.
June 10, 2008 at 09:12 #167669I’ve read somewhere sometime back, cant remember where, that Zarkava has a lot of temperament and wouldnt handle transportation well enough to race abroad. For that reason she would be kept racing solely in France. The media today are reporting she’ll have a rest then one prep race before running in the Arc.
