French jockeys have always been slagged off, riding in this country, in my lifetime.

Who knows, maybe they were being slagged off a century ago as well.

Even the great Yves Saint-Martin was slagged off round Epsom.

What I don’t understand is that Francois Doumen is a highly respected, intelligent trainer, welcomed to these shores, but every single (French) jockey he has used here has been slagged off. Surely he is not that bad a judge of what is a good jockey?

I’ve gone on record as opposing Kasbah Bliss, but the jockey has nothing to do with it. I just think Punchestowns and Big Buck’s are very, very good.

Thoughts on jockeys please, because this is a subject that I don’t know much about.

There are always going to be good and bad jockeys. Pieux is one of the top French jockeys, if there’s anything to criticise him about he rides very short – one dodgy jump at a fence and he’s off.
