I’m going with Roberta Has 40s ew- plenty of stamina in the pedigree and age on her side. Got an ew girlie double with Starlet du Mesnil for the Grand Steep too.
May 19, 2023 at 22:24 #1648441I wonder that they did not send Monkfish here given the softer ground and bigger hurdles would have suited him better than Punchestown. Unless he got wrecked at Punchestown.
May 20, 2023 at 08:00 #1648461Hopefully greenasgrass I’ve got the right race.
Here are the thoughts of chairman Willie.
*
“We have four runners in the Grade 1 Grande Course de Haies D’Auteuil Hurdle (French Champion Hurdle) over 3m 1f. Paul rides Klassical Dream who was second in this race last year. We think he has every chance of running as well if not better this time round. He will be suited by the track and ground. Nico de Boinville comes over from England to partner Asterion Forlonge who has run three solid races since returning from a break. He has a real chance of getting a major share of the prize money. Haut En Couleurs (Johnny Charron) is a course winner but has a lot to make up on official ratings. His pedigree suggests he will stay this trip and we will be very pleased if he can finish in the first half dozen. Kilcruit (Lucas Zuliani) reverts to hurdles after a very impressive win over fences at Punchestown. These hurdles and the ground and trip will suit. It would be terrific if he finishes in the first four or five.”May 20, 2023 at 08:08 #1648462Here are the runners with racing post comments.

Anouma Freedom
Useful veteran but looks a no-hoper here
Asterion Forlonge
Retains most of his ability but others stay better
Feronily
Grade 1 staying novice win in 3m chase at Punchestown; tough sort; respected
Flooring Porter
Dual Stayers’ Hurdle winner; needs to bounce back from ordinary Aintree run
Folsom Prison
Two-time Listed winner but loads to find with pick of these
Goa Lil
Caught some of these off guard latest; this is much tougher and has stamina to prove
Haut En Couleurs
Running well under big weights in handicaps; class and stamina to prove
Hermes Baie
Good winner last year but not at same level since; cheekpieces need to work
Hewick
Ran big prior to fall in Gold Cup; ready win since; fresh horse but ground a concern
Kilcruit
Easily won a handicap at Punchestown; stamina to prove but could go well
Klassical Dream
Good second 12 months ago and 4lb better with Hermes Baie;
likely to go well
Lucky One
Progressive handicapper up to extended 2m5f here; others have stronger form
Roberta Has
Grade 3-winning mare whose form doesn’t stack up with best of these; stamina to prove
Sans Bruit
In good form at a lower level of shorter; struggled previously at the top level
Theleme

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"May 20, 2023 at 10:06 #1648476Klassical dream looks well in here.
Interesting jockey bookings and Nico should be in the shake up too.
Good use of home jockeys by a very shrewd trainer who never moans about travel arrangements affecting his horses.May 20, 2023 at 10:58 #1648487How heavy is the ground there? Hewick won on “yielding” at Far Hills but that’s hardly comparable to French ground.

Thelemes
To win
Three grade ones and has slammed Hermes Bai comprehensively several times.
So if klassical dream has a weight advantage over last year’s winner he’d still need more to beat Thelemes.
I’m not sure what the racing post are writing about…..May 20, 2023 at 14:22 #1648523Well done Sam

My selection just needs to learn to stay up!
