La Combattante managed to turn the tables on Purplepay (surprisingly sent off at odds-on) but then got collared by her own lesser-fancied stablemate – that’s how things go when you’re on a poor run.

The first juvenile group race of the season today at Chantilly sees our old friend Best Sixteen attempt to emulate Tiger Tanaka in going from claiming winner to group winner but I think his new connections are flying a little too high here and the selection is Solotov The form of his debut win is largely untested but he quickened up well that day, he has experience of the wide straight Chantilly course and the extra 100m won’t be a problem.

    2.15 Chantilly Solotov £20 win @ 5/1

Too bad to be true for Solotov who went out like a light from halfway having shown good speed until then. He would have needed to find plenty to have beaten Kevin Ryan’s impressive Atomic Force anyway.

Tomorrow’s selection at Chantilly is Who Knows She was sent off favourite in a fair maiden at Lyon=Parilly but took a while to get into her stride having travelled strongly until the 300m mark and I thought she would come on a fair bit for that. The second and third (Purplepay and La Combattante) have run Ok since and that form is good enough to win a race of this nature.

I’m surprised to see 15/2 available over night, the market leader Txope ran well on debut but did flash her tail when put under pressure whilst Winnan idled in front last time and got caught close home. Neither look the sort to be taking a shortish price about.

The notebook selections finally get back on track with Who Knows winning well and the favourite, Txope, once again flashing her tail under pressure. She is one to be wary of.

Monday at Lyon=Parilly the selection is Alromy. This filly has run two nice races to date, both times behind a better fancied stablemate (Diadema who won today at Lyon-Parilly, albeit a little fortunately) and her most recent effort suggested she is ready to win now with Ambre Mollins keeping the ride and taking off a handy 1.5kg. Confidence is tempered by the presence of Johen from the same stable. This colt was sent off at only 4/1 in that Lyon maiden and although well beaten presumably better was expected. He wore cheekpieces that day but has a tongue strap tomorrow. As I’ve been on the wrong end of these Frederic Rossi multiple runners-in-a-race scenarios before I’ll keep the stakes small for this one.

A fair effort from Alromy today. For most of the race I thought Maxime Guyon had gone too fast on Hot Queen but she kept on well and won unchallenged which is probably why he rides 100 winners per year and I don’t. I’ll give Alromy one more chance on this evidence although I was slightly disconcerted to see a tail-flash inside the last 200m.

Tomorrow at Senonnes Godolphin’s Sashiko pops up in a very weak maiden (worth only 6.25k). Favourite on debut but running all over the place and never landing a blow next time, he has since left Andre Fabre and joined Henri Pantall. That latter race has thrown up two subsequent winners so may be better than it looked at the time and stepping up in trip, he is worth another chance here given that the favourite Juste Bere only won a very weak claimer first time up. I would expect Yann Barberot’s newcomer Touching My Dream to be a bigger danger.

    Selection 3.45 Senonnes Sashiko £30 win @ 7/2
